Do you know any sign language?

I think it's pretty handy to know it.

  • I took ASL in high school for my language requirement. Now im trying to relearn/refresh my memory with youtube videos.

There's a lot i think I still need to learn like abstract words and techno jargon.

The hardest part in school was trying to properly discribe a room/give directions.

there's also a proper way to structure your sentences im not good with.

  • i know very little. we've taught my daughter some sign language (eat, more, drink, thank you, please, etc) so she could communicate before she was able to talk. so that's about all i know of sign language

i know probably a dozen total signs

  • I think pretty much everyone does nowadays as it's currently the in thing for parents to teach it to their infants. The theory is that by giving an infant the ability to communicate, you reduce their stress and frustration that comes from being unable to convey their needs. Personally, I thought it was just adorable to have my daughters ask for "more", "milk" and "water". ;-)

    • I won't since I don't know it. What I wrote in the description was just for the pun.

    • That is commonly called "Baby Sign" and it is a very in thing to teach your kids.

  • every written language is a set of signs.

so yes, I know a sign language.

But no, I don't know the type of sign language you mean

  • Unfortunately not... the only signals I know - but those will not be the ones you mean - are some signals used in search-and-rescue.
Like a capital V means laid out on the ground means "we need help".
An X means "we need medical help".
    And so on...

  • Yes, I took a full time ASL course at college and then did night school classes afterwards. I don't have nearly as much opportunity to use it as I would like, so I am pretty rusty now.
