How much should a guy spend on a promise ring?

my boyfriend wants to get me one when I go see him next weekend (long distance relationship). He makes 1400 a month and has no bills at all (military). How much do you think would be a reasonable amount to spend? I just wanna start looking at them online and picking out ones I like, but I don't wanna get my hopes up.

A promise ring should be far less than an engagement ring. I wouldn't think more than $100 for one, since you won't be wearing it once you get your engagement ring. My gut feeling says you can get something nice with your birthstone on it for 60-80$, depending on what your stone is.
