There's a stereotype that NASCAR fans are all racist, uneducated, drunkard redneck types who are still upset that the south lost the civil war. It's not true for the most part, but like all stereotypes it does come from the fact that there is a grain of truth in it. NASCAR, while it is popular throughout the US, has its largest fanbase in the southeastern portion of the country, where which is the part of the country known to be home to those kinds of people (among others, but again, the stereotype).

While I can see people having that image, because plenty of the fans ARE kind of trashy, it's a multi-billion-dollar sport and there are plenty of middle and upper-class fans who go to races and are fans of the sport. It's the #1 spectator sport in the US, and there aren't enough "trashy" people who could afford tickets to be nothing but trashy people. LOL.
And this is coming from someone who isn't especially a fan (though I barely follow ANY sport).
I would not date a 45 year old period.

I am definitely NOT a fan of Nascar, especially since it ALWAYS preempts the Simpsons and the rest of FOX's Sunday night lineup which is about the only thing still worth watching on FOX. It's ironic because I have relatives who actually go to Nascar races. Usually during family get-togethers I keep my opinion to myself.
A bit prejudice, aren't we? No, not at all. I know people that go sometimes, and I don't consider them trashy. I was invited once and went. Much better at the event than watching it on television. There are trashy people there, but there are trashy people that go to other sporting events as well. There's really no difference. Even other types of racing don't get this kind of stuff attached to them. Basically what you're saying is: "Is the south full of trashy people?" Is that a correct assumption? Since Nascar is associated with the southeastern US. Nascar has actually diversified. Half of the top guys aren't even from the south anymore. There have been several Formula One drivers that have cycled through there as well. There are also black redneck type people out there. I'm sure that may come as a shock, but 'tis true.
People like different things. I don't see how liking car racing is trashy. I've never been into NASCAR personally, but I do like speeding in my car and playing car racing games sometimes.
