Now do you consider Haitians Latino why ?
Do not Latin/Hispanic people consider Haitians are Latino?
Now do you consider Haitians Latino why ?
They are very much Latino, and will be considered Latino by any official listing. In fact Haiti was the first independent Latin American country. French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, and a few other languages are considered romance languages. If a country officially speaks a romance language, they are considered Latin. If they live in the Americas they are Latin American.
This is a list of members of the Latin Union. Notice France and Haiti are both members. Even Ivory Coast.

This is Haiti's wikipedia page. Notice it as being considered Latin American.

They are Latino, and that is a fact. Whether you think that their culture is similar to other Latin American countries is irrelevant. They are latino. And Latino is not a race. Japanese Brazilians are Latino. Chinese Peruvians are Latino. Black Cubans and Domincans are Latino. White Uruguayans and Mexicans are Latino. Race has nothing to do with whether it is latino or not. Latino doesn't mean Spanish/Portuguese speaking in any book. It means Romance speaking, and France is a romance language wether you like it or not.
Well said someone actually read history and understand.
I consider Latinos to have ethnic or cultural Spanish or Portuguese roots.
Haitians have neither.
The fact that they led one of the most successful revolutions in history is largely responsible for the lack of lasting cultural imprint on their people.
Furthermore, the Haiti was an Island colonized by France, not Spain or Portugal.
Latino is not a race. French is conisdered latino language and culture from Europe. Haitians speak French creole and many speak French. Even some part of the culture have French roots. I would know I am Haitian after reading and studing. French people consider Haiti also part of the Francophone family.
Read a book, french is included but not English.
( Treaty of Tordesillas on the sharing of the New World between France, Spain, and Portugal but NOT England...)
Haitians are latinos.
Latino is the Spanish word for Latin. In French, Latino isn't even a word, they just use Latin like English people. I don't know why people insist on trying to lump the French-speaking Caribbean countries as a part of that culture, because they're simply not that similar. It's really more a term for Central American countries that had Spain/Portugal as their colonizer.
It was napoleon bonaparte a French man that wanted to use the term. So keep trying go read a history book than come back.
I've never heard of Haitians being considered Latino.they are west Indians. Many Dominicansand Panamanians for example are black, yet they're Latinos.its just culture, not race. I am part Guyanese and while that is located in south America, we aren't Latinos either. You must speak Spanish or Portuguese, which Haitians don't.
I am Haitian I consider myself Afro latino.
You are wrong!!!
latinos speak Spanish (most latin American countries )
, portuguese (Brazil)
and, yes , ... french (Haiti)
BUUT NOT ENGLISh!!!
people not well educated should read the sharing of the New World in wich it is about the Dordesillas Treaty where they excluded all country with English language...)
if you are an independant country, if you are in latin america and if you speak Spanish, portuguese or french, you are LATINO want it or not..
@Haitiangirl
i am haitian too and i consider myself as afro latino since i was born too.
i don't know why people think we are not.
Actually, you're wrong Latino is anyone who speaks a latin language that is part of North or South America.
French Canadians are technically Latino since they speak a Latin derived language.
So yes Haitians are Latino as well. Get over it.

Are you talking race or culture or both? Haiti was basically a sugar cane plantation where the African slaves rose up and drove out the collonials. The DR managed to find a slightly more effective system of government than Haiti ever has, but the culture is still similar. Spanish dominated, culture, with an African twist and overlayed with the historical leftovers of an exceptionally brutal slave system.
I think that whole island kind of has to be categorized separately. We're not talking about the standard Spanish colony among native Americans. It was more of an imported mixed up version of Africa with a creole/Spanish patois language stretched over it. Not your standard latin culture at all.
Race wise, It seems a lot more African than Latino.
Dominican Republic speaks Spanish not Spanish creole. Haitian speak creole/French. Dominican Rep, Cuba and Puerto Rico share almost the same history. Its a mix of African,Native American and Spanish heritage . And similar things happened in Brazil were slavery was the most cruel. So its not really uncommon thing in Latin America.
True, but I was under the impression that DR/Haiti had an especially brutal time of it both under colonial slavery and later under various governments that imitated the authoritarian nature of the colonials. Gotta admit my history education in that part of the world is pretty basic though, so I bow to yours. :-D I'd like to know more about the whole region some day. We focused too much on British colonies.
Latino is not a race. Due you cosider a Native looking person from Mexico a latino? Why not the Haitians? France is part of the latin family and Haiti was under France. I think you should go and read a history book of the latin culture and French language.
don't be confused between hispanic and latino guys
haitians Are latinos because:
- they are in south america,
- independant,
-and they speak french (treaty of Tordesillas wich excluded English speaking countries...)
Wether they consider them or not, yes cubans/columbians are Latino and Hispanic in ethnicity. Since cuba and columbia were once Spanish colonies. Latino and Hispanic is NOT a RACE, ANY race can be Latino and Hispanic. Spanish people from spain are white and are the original Hispanics. White people from italy are the original Latino's.
1- Its Colombia* lol 2- I never said Latino/Hispanic is a race.
Well said you read up on history.
Haiti was originally colonized by Spain and later along its history black were introduce and put on plantations, when the Spanish neglected it the french tried to put a foot hold in the Haitian land and so the mix of races varied from white, Hispanic, and black.
But if you look at the current demographics of Haiti the majority is black, and the other percentage is white and mulatto, so do I consider them Hispanics? No. I consider them descendents of Africans.
We are descendents of Africans and we are proud. Hispanic is not a race is it? Nope and is latino a race nope. French is part of the Latin family go read up on that. Also Haitians speak French Creole the base is French and many due speak French also. Being that French ruled Haiti and its people they are latino due to the language and part of the culture ties to France.
Technically, yes they're considered Latino since Haiti is an Afro-Latin nation with African contributions, but a lot of Haitians consider themselves African.
Well, as they're from Hispanola, I would think they'd be Hispanic...
Hispanics are people that come from a speaking Spanish countries. Haitians speak French/Creole.
you are confused between latino and hispanic:
latino: latin america + a romance language
Haitians are latinos because they speak a romance language and they are in america latina.
and they are the country who helped to free a lot of latin countries like Venezuela Colombia Equador...
Hispanic is a country witch speack Spanish Haiti don't.
Yes they are Latino. French is a latin language and Latino's can be any race. Just because they're black doesn't make them less Latino. Racist
I notice many people think latino is a race and have no idea about the history. Like you said many are racist period.
latinos speak Spanish (most latin American countries )
, portuguese (Brazil)
and, yes , ... french (Haiti)
BUUT NOT ENGLISh!!!
people not well educated should read the sharing of the New World in wich it is about the Tordesillas Treaty where they excluded all country with English language...)
if you are an independant country, if you are in latin america 'Canadians are not latinos they are not from south america) and if you speak Spanish, portuguese or french, YOU ARE LATINO.
can someone translate the question? google translate has no idea what the f*** this means
Its OK buddy, we all know you're dumb :)
hmm irony is a tricky thing
Cuban, Colombian, Haitian. They're all irrelevant in 98% of the states. I'm indifferent.
This is why the rest of the world think Americans are stupid :)
The funny thing is, America REALLY doesn't even think about the rest of the world. xD
that is the opinion of most of fools...
I'm Latino and I don't, since I don't consider Jamaicans or Bahamians Latino either.
Are you special or what? Latino is not a race and guess what Jamaicans and Bahamians speak English. That has nothing to do with the romance languages. French is a latin language if you fools didn't know this. Go read a history book you are slow.
You are wrong all the way !!!
latinos speak Spanish (most latin American countries )
, portuguese (Brazil)
and, yes , ... french (Haiti)
BUUT NOT ENGLISh!!!
people not well educated should read the sharing of the New World in wich it is about the Dordesillas Treaty where they excluded all country with English language...)

french is included but not English.
( Treaty of Tordesillas on the sharing of the New World between France, Spain, and Portugal but NOT England...)
