"You're too sweet" Double meaning?

Anonymous
Ok girls, a girl tells me that I'm too sweet whenever I express concern or do something nice for her. (Nothing outlandish, just words of encouragement, advice, random jokes/stories to brighten her day)

So what I'm wondering is, is that an absolutely good thing, or does it have a bad side to it.

You're sweet= that was really nice of you, thanks.

You're too sweet= I appreciate that, but it was a bit too much and I'm a little uncomfortable about it.

That's my very literal interpretation of it, is there any truth there? Or is it more than likely just a purely positive statement meaning more than just "you're sweet"?
