Also do some women not realize how much they can show in this or do they not care?
Also what is the deal with wear black bras with this stuff? Is that they want to show there bra to everyone or is it a "stylish trend" too?
I had a beautiful, long essay written, but the answer wouldn't submit. -.-
Basically, you don't know why those woman chose to wear what they did.
None of the answerers do.
Those woman could have simply not have had the right attire for what they were going to wear (strapless bra for one shoulder dress, so went braless or a nude bra for the woman in the purple shirt), they could have simply felt confident about what they're wearing and don't care what anyone else thinks (good for them), maybe they do want attention, maybe they're naive enough to believe it's in "trend," or maybe they weren't aware of the sheerness of the fabric.
But as for the people saying it's "in trend," it's not.
However, it is a showcase of what is acceptable to a society.
Sheerness has always been a part of fashion, depending on the location and climate of where the fashion is. In Ancient Egypt (2000-1700 BC), the Queen and handmaiden went bare-chested, occasionally covering themselves in very sheer fabric. 1500-1200 BC, the princesses, priestesses, and wealthy woman barely covered themselves with sheer fabric.
In the same time period, 2000-1200 BC, in Ancient Crete, wealthy woman and woman of nobility wore full dresses, only exposing their bare chests, necks, feet, and arm from the elbows to their hands.
But you really don't need a fashion in history lesson to know that in nearly, if not every decade in the history of US woman's fashion, sheer fabric was used in some way. Obviously not always as exposing as the images you've chosen to show us.
Lastly, why should it matter why a woman wears what she wears?
Men are allowed to go shirtless.
People are entitled to wear whatever they choose.
You don't know why someone chooses to wear something without asking the person and receiving an honest answer.
So, if you really care so much as to know, next time you see a woman in a sheer fabric, ask her why she is wearing it.
When I wear sheer garments, it's because I like the garment. Don't worry, it's not to impress a man or get attention.
It's purely for myself. Call me selfish. Eh.
When I buy clothes, I do test the sheerness of them by placing my hand underneath and do think about how I could wear it if I do choose to buy it.
Sometimes, I don't always have a clean nude bra to wear underneath a white shirt. Black bras won't be my first alternative choice though.
I, however, am not a representative for every girl out in the world wearing sheer fabrics.
Everybody has their own reason for choosing to wear what they wear.
Thanks for the lecture. People will still think and act on whatever thoughts and feelings they have. Some will accept them and respect them others won't and just as no one can choose their clothes for them they nor society can choose how people feel about them or how people judge them... in spite of your lecture.
Two things on this you may wish to consider Ms.. First if a man were to ask a woman why she is wearing something in today's cultural climate, he would be ostracized quite profusely. A man cannot simply ask a woman what she is doing anything these days. Nor does it seem to be culturally acceptable to tell a woman she looks beautiful without already being in a relationship with the lady in question. To do so would be at best considered a potentially unwelcome advance, at worst it could be considered sexist and a declaration of her worth. As a either reaction could get a man fired these days it behoves a man to keep his peace.
That stated this is the place for such questions. The whole point of this site if I am not mistaken is to get the point of view from the opposite sex or same sex without it being an attack.
Lastly when it comes to men not wearing a shirt this has to do primarily with men the world over being the primary source of labor in jobs that are oftentimes filthy or dangerous. Why waste a shirt, you know? As men working without shirts is almost globally a common aspect it has reached acceptance at large. Though this may in fact be changing who knows. I for one do not disagree that men should cloth themselves but I am also not for disparaging a person for showing of their body. I do however think that in such an instance as to show off one's body on purpose it is then fair game to comment upon it from a fashion point of view if nothing else.
This whole thing confuses and frustates me. Women don't like to be sexualized overtly by anyone, yet things like this clearly indicates that they just don't want anyone but themselves to do it. I feel that it is the exception (bad behavior = lots of attention, good = none) on the whole and that hypocrisy creates stereotypes of all sorts and these same individuals to be charging through #MeToo and saying there's nothing wrong with what they do or say.
There are some good points here, especially in the shirtless statement, just as @xTeacup pointed out. In many, many places, including where I'm at, women are legally allowed to go topless. While I have been ingrained to not be comfortable with showing my breasts and would never voluntarily do so, there's nothing wrong with being comfortable. Obviously size doesn't matter when it comes to this or the standard would have to apply all around, including to my neighbor man that has bigger breasts than I do. No one should be ashamed of their body in any way. This goes for the same as women who feel it's necessary to show a cleavage plunge to their knees and have no one but themselves to blame when that's the only attention they get upon contact with someone. There's no aspect of self respect when you do something you know will draw disproportionate attention when you meet some.
What it really comes down to here is sexuality and representing what will get them the attention. The world is sexualized beyond a ridiculous level that it runs the public persona, especially for women, who should be ashamed of crying wolf and then claiming no responsibility for that reason. The body is a beautiful thing (no matter what it looks like or how it appears to you) and shouldn't be shamed. There are some places, like in the US, that people are taught to believe that naked = sex and not natural. From things I've watched here and there over the years, it's given proof that that specifically is true. Looser measures and acceptance of nudity outside of the US leads to a lot displays that are approved of. There are more clothing optional or nude beaches in the UK as well as nudity on the TV after 9pm while the same token in the US is acceptable at a handbra (maybe?) or "almost" revealing lingerie. There are naked waist-up shots of men that are "hot" (who are sexualized!!) that leave open to the perception that there's more (ok less) below. It's a double standard society and there is no equal treatment when it comes to it.
I think there are three parts to this. 1) is media. We see famous women dressed like this, with short shorts and loose fitting tank tops with black bras on, and so we copy this look. 2) is guys. A lot of guys will be like oh yeah that's hot or whatever and then the girl wants to keep giving more and more. 3) is girls. You see other girls wearing more revealing clothes and if you don't they give you that you're-a-prude look, so you wear more revealing clothing and part of more revealing clothing is revealing your bra and black bras are more contrasting to the shirt, making them more noticeable.
Never heard of the "you're-a-prude look"
Normally, girls are supposed to be covered up, like the girl in the hot red dress, underneath the see through overskirt. These skirtss aren't supposed to be a strip-tease, not at all!
But a lot of girls don't know how to wear them..or they WANT to look trashy, sometimes.
Ergo, the black bras. These outfits weren't designed with the idea of showing off your underwear
But some girls think that is somehow alluring, which it is NOT!..
Why do some girls show cleavage?
Why do some girls show a camel toe?
Why do some girls wear string bikini bottoms on the beach?
Some want to be desired, others simply don't give a damn about showing their body. Some are proud of their body. They just cover up what's imposed by law.
Not everyone is Mormon or Amish or Muslim.
What's wrong with a woman's body?
Why do guys go topless on the beach ?
I never said that there was anything wrong with a women's body or women faulting what they have, just curious as to why is all.

Yep. I've seen this on people going on cruises, as I used to work doing this until December of 2023. It's a fashion thing and it's clearly a "sex" thing. It's a way to be "naked" without technically being naked. You have clothing covering you, but it shows a heckuva lot.
Humans are horny and advertise in many ways. This is one of them.
Fashion designers and factories cut corners on women's clothing because there more patterns they have to make. So cutting corners is like using see through material, low quality etc to make production cheap and I know so many girls who are tired of clothes like that. Especially for teenager girls to wear go in a popular fashion store where young adults and teens shop and you see shirts that only cover the boob area and the stomach are expose with words like "skank" "slut" just trashy sayings and they trying to sell them to teenagers it's gross and weird to do it.
this is about all they sell now. see through, short and sleezy. it is hard for me to find clothes in this day. I am conservative. I am a teacher and one of my co-workers looks sleezy everyday. I think there is a time and place for certain styles. she should dress naked on dates or at her house. When she wore dresses they were always mid upper thigh and she sat down the dresses were at her crotch. highly inappropriate for a teacher. of course the male teachers liked it. I was ignored since my dresses were at least knee length. I recieved compliments by the male teachers but was never asked out.
No that is too short in a professional environment. I wouldn't wear that on a date. I am not a slut.
I meant for the other teacher you were talking about. I should have clarified more.
Yes that is what she wore and shorter and sometimes see through.
What does you teach? Are we talking college, high school, middle school, etc?
we are at elementary level. even if we were at college level she should dress professionaly.
How old is she?
My question is why do people not have better things 5o do with their time than judge someone for wearing what they wouldn't? If it's not illegal people can wear what ever makes them happy or they feel looks good. It's fine that it's not something you're attracted too. But others are so who the f'ck cares. But o guess there's always gonna be the haters looking for a power trip in the world. I happen to think all women look beautiful whether they dress conservative, provocative, wear make up, or go natural. Everybody doesn't have to fit in a little no because that's how you are.
*box not no
They're trendy and I love to wear them braless. There are some that have pockets Justin front of your boobs so you can't actually see my nipples and that's more exciting 'cause you guys know I'm wearing no bra but can't see my nipples, unless you see me from one side and with light behind me. OMG
So it is worn for guys, to get there attention?
Not always, but to feel comfortable
It does not sound that way from your answer, lol.
Ok OK you're right. Lolololol
Is it like that with yoga pants? Even if girls wear them because they are comfortable they have to know guys are going to be looking at there butts right?
Yeah is exactly the same. No matter what your dressing guys usually stare at you. And when you pass them they look at your butt. Lol. In my opinion I don't care, 'cause that means guys like my body and that I'm sexy, so no complains at all. And if besides that you look sensual guys get crazy. Lol.
I guess you are right on the fact that guys will stare out you no matter what, but some things are a lot more revealing then others. Do you ever tease guys on purpose?
Of course not, but no matter what guys always stare at girls and most of times is guys who tease girls 'cause they look at us as a sexual symbol, or with hunger. If we were a fruit or something guys had eaten us with their sight long time ago.
I have always got the feeling that staring at girl made them feel creeped out rather then teased.
My reason is the fact, a lot of tops which I like the look of is see through, it doesn't take a lot for me to be warm so wearing a vest underneath to stop the see through isn't really an option as I'd sweat like hell. Then in the end I just decided loads of other girls wear it like this so why should I care and be bothered so much
Wearing a black bra under a white shirt was considered sexy back in the 70's. The see through look has come and gone many times. Personally I think it's a more classy approach than just wearing skimpy clothing where you have say a see through skirt over hot pants or a shirt over a fashionable cropped corset type top.
It seems ironic to take a classy approach to skimpy clothing, but it kind of makes sense.
I see what you mean I think Victorian clothing on girls in sexy and classy.
Sheer clothing can be seen as sexy, and as another user said clothes like that are what is being sold in many stores. To be honest, I didn't think Kim's dress was so bad, but I'm not a fan of the rest of the links you posted. Most women I know would try to make sure their underwear wasn't visible like that.
Aren't bras underwear?
Yeah, and most women I know try to cover up both, though like with Kim's black dress she wore a black bra, so it looked more just like part of the outfit and a lot less tacky... Letting your thong show through your dress is extremely tacky though.
I see what you mean. I remember in my English class last year a girl wore a sleeveless see through type shirt that was green with a black bra.
The media conditions many woman to believe that their primary asset to men is their sexuality though life experience will teach us that this belief is faulty for so many reasons and in so many ways.
They may not know (I'm saying that just about the picture showing the woman's underwear) but celebrities don't really count as real people style-wise. That's like showing Lady Gaga and asking if girls have gone insane.
I get the celebrity style wise part, but I have seen a decent amount of girls at college wearing this type of stuff. (mostly with the shirts, like in the 2nd link) It is just easier to find pics of celbs wearing the stuff, because that is what comes up.
most of the women are at a film premier or a fashion show, which means publicity for them, also if you walk down the high street not many women wear these clothes, anything that is transparent helps to show off what the women supposedly have got I. E, showing their Bra, if they were Bra-less their breast may sag more than they hope the wouldn't
clothes helps us all in our way of being what I think most women are exhibitionist
I don't know why other people wear see through things, and I see a lot of variation between -a black bra showing, nipples showing, panties/ass cheeks showing. I have a certain off white top and wear my beige bra underneath and don't care if it shows. it's not a cheap shirt either, it's just a thin soft material. the bra covers my breast well and it's better than wearing an undershirt
Girl you wear what ever make you happy. There's always haters in the world that will judge do to their unhappiness. But that's their problem.
@PinkMichae amen to that
Cause girls are always looking for new ways to show off their bodies and draw attention. Not so much to get called out but enough to make guys look and want to see more. That's what it seems like to me anyway. There are girlls who don't do that but there are definitely those who do as well.
Because clothing labels that make clothes for women have want women to layer their outfit. More layers means more clothes. More clothes mean more money. And time and time again, marketers have shown that, women, unlike men, are willing to spend money for clothes that are sheer/lack heft.
Some of these aren't intentional. The very last link, for example, is almost surely an accident. Some clothing will not seem to be see through in ambient light, but the direct light of the flash of the camera lets you see through more of it.
As for the intentional ones, a la Kardashian, my guess is that it's because she likes it. As to "why" she likes it, you'd have to ask her.
Wow your the only male comment that mentions things accidental, it happened a couple of times that I've brought something in a shop and its looked fine just to wear it at home and be like oh, it leaves nothing to the imagination. Also I've gone to more designer shops to buy something and liked a top to find it's actually see through.
No one seems to realise that a large amount of female clothing is just see through and its either wear ugly things or wear see through things.
I don't know...either they're really comfortable of their bodies and/or are proud of them.
Or they were in a hurry that day and didn't realize how thin or transparent their new clothes really were/are.
Seriously I wish bra makers would stop making bras so thin. There doesn't have to be a lot of padding in bras either...just an average amount of padding. Is that too much to ask?
I think it's a style trend especially the black bra under the white outfit, I mean the link you provided in the update was clearly a fashion shoot where every aspect of clothing, hair and makeup is perfectly placed and arranged, so it clearly wasn't an accident. I don't get it, I don't dress like this, at least not on purpose.
I think it's not a "trend." Those women who wear see-through clothes know that their bras and breasts are showing. That's why they wear them. They want to catch attention.
Somebody bought me a sheer top in black color, but what's inside the top isn't so visible (i. e. my skin and bra) and I usually wear a black bra with it, just so that people won't be able to see anything
I have a see through shirt, but I wear a singlet top underneath it, I don't have my bra showing, I think it's uncouth.
I'm looking forward to wearing it as well but my boyfriend is not letting me wear it. I think it's cool but you need to know how to wear it to not look trashy.
I'm trying to change my style(the goth style not of my age anymore) to go to college but he is really jealous and he is telling me that I will only attract more guys by wearing these kind of clothes. We argued a lot about it and he finally agreed to let me wear it. These shirts don't look trashy. link link You just need to know how to wear it.
