Emla cream for tattoo?

Ive got a back and rib tattoo recently and after enduring 2 hours of pain my tattooist said to come back in a couple of weeks with numbing cream because I was shaking too much to do the fine details... has anyone had experience with Emla cream? How long does it last for? and was the pain worse when it wore off?

I have had numbing cream for a tattoo and I will be honest you can still feel it! it will either tickle or just be painful! it will last a good few hours! and pain wasn't worse when it wore off! I didn't even notice when it had wore off!

I haven't used it before but from what I've heard it does lessen the pain, but it still bloody hurts (especially ribs). I'd suggest you consider taking some strong pain relief as well, that might help?
