What's the deal when it comes to abs? Can anyone comment?
Do girls really dig a guy with abs?

Not every guy works out just so that he can pick up chicks on the weekend.
For sure you get the "do as little work as possible" guys that go in there, do a couple of bicep curls and sit ups - for the girls.
But there are others who do it for themselves.
Being surrounded by gym rats most of my life, I know that there's definitely more to it than that.
It is a lifestyle. It is about personal improvement. Pushing yourself - running, cycling, lifting, hitting - harder, faster, heavier, bigger, better than yesterday.
Always moving up and evolving. Becoming the best you can possibly be.
Looking in the mirror and never being just content, it's about creating the physique of a god. Perfection is impossible, but trying to achieve that and getting as close as possible is something some people find a lot of pleasure in striving for. Working on your midsection is just part of that. Not to mention there are personal athletic goals that these guys are attempting to reach.
Most guys I know started out because they saw a particular guy look a certain way and he was flocked by females. They think "Well let's hit the gym I guess...". But after a while, for some people it consumes them, they find that they get something more out of working on their physique - we all have that something that we dedicate ourselves to, throw ourselves into and we find some sort of fulfillment comes from it.
Transforming your body is just like anything else requiring talent, practice, skill, time, heart, motivation and dedication.
"Do girls really dig guys with abs?"
Depending. I'm going to bet most prefer a firmer midsection and a degree of visible muscle mass over rolls of soft fat. I've never heard a female in my life say that she prefers a softer look to a guy over a harder one.
When a girl thinks of abs/muscles/weight lifting, they think of Mr. Olympia type physiques so they immediately say "Eeeeeewww". It's not like that though - it's about being firm, tight and hard.
"Guy with abs...considered cocky".
Nobody needs to be arrogant or cocky. But I find that these guys who have worked out for years, striving to look a certain way, they feel good about themselves and that's how they show that they're proud.
Abs.
Is it a requirement for me? Absolutely not. A preference? Most definitely.
I'm a female. Biologically I have higher body fat than a man. I look in the mirror and I am soft, slim, smooth, dainty. I can never have a set of 6 cinder blocks popping out from my midsection - so to speak, it's not possible. But a man can. I am also a straight female and therefore I am attracted to the exact opposite of what a female represents.
I am sexually attracted to less body fat, I like a harder, leaner, stronger, angular looking physique than my own.
It's what it represents and what it triggers with my hormones more than anything else.
I want to hug a guy and feel somewhat consumed - he has a harder body wrapping around me and pulling me close. That makes me feel even more feminine
I like your answer.
Thank you
To the new Q.
No it doesn't matter. Not everyone can have an 8 pack. It's all down to genetics. Some guys will only have a visible 4.
I personality don't prefer the guy to have muscles, but I don't mind it either as long as it's the the range of normal. The one thing that is a big turn on for me in the physical appearance is the height. I guess that everyone has some criteria, but from what I can understand and what my friends have told me, girls do like guys with abs probably cause it makes them look more masculine.
I'm not gonna lie..abs are nice : ) but typically if I can find a good ass who treats me right and upgrades my life, I'm not gonna give af whether he has abs. Hell, I don't even have abs! lol
Abs are cosmetic muscles, like calves. They have a function and purpose, but they are mainly useful for improving your appearance. Your other muscle groups are a lot more important to develop since they provide more strength benefits, although all muscles should be worked.
All it takes to get abs is a low body fat percentage. For some this is extremely easy. I always find it funny when scrawny <140lb guys brag about their 6 packs when they didn't have to work for it and the rest of their bodies look like toothpicks. Girls like an overall more athletically built guy than just one with abs.
Yea I can see 4 mainly for me and I'm around 10% BF. I'm more concerned with my overall physique and don't spend too much time on abs.
There is no such thing as 'cosmetic' muscles! Without abdominals it would be hard to even get out of bed in the morning.
Well, duh they are very important. What I mean by cosmetic is that they are mostly used to enhance appearance. People don't work hours in the gym in abs to make them strong to help with squats and posture, they do it to look good. This is different from something like hamstrings, which people spend hours working on to actually get stronger.

I want guys to have abs because they workout and are healthy. I'm a dancer and have "girl abs" so they're not body builder abs but they're there. Considering that, I want guys I'm with to be just as in shape if not more. I love working out and would enjoy it if I had a guy that did too.
not me. I like well-defined pecs and arms and shoulders, and a toned back is damn sexy. But abs are not a must.
My friend who really likes abs on a guy said that it's the hardest muscle to define, so she likes it because it shows hard work.
Food for thought :)

not for me, I like broad shoulders & back and big arms. I don't like washboard or a rock hard stomach
I don't, I like a flat stomach or a chubb, abs weird me out.. it's like hugging a brick pillar.
I like abs. No idea why. They're masculine, I guess. And thus I like them.
yeah I don't really care about abs
Girls like guys who are healthy.
