Why are people surprised that I don't have a girlfriend?

Why are people surprised that I have never had and do not have a girlfriend?

I am 19 and I have been at University for about 2 months now and my friends and acquaintances who have found out in some way or another have always been really surprised. I've asked them if they were serious and not just trying to build my confidence but they always said they meant it.

What I don't get is that I don't think anyone has been interested in me yet people have always been surprised that I am single. I don't really get it.

By the way, I don't shout about my lack of relationships with women, it just emerges in conversation because I don't lie to people.

I get called cute but if I was so attractive then I would have had some female interest I would have thought.

I flirt with girls but not that many perhaps compared to other people. I can be more reserved than most people but I am quite outgoing too, I can hold down a conversation better than most quieter people.

I am the same way. I am 18 and just started dating my first boyfriend. People would tell me that and be surprised when I told them too! But I think it is just our society. You are actually being smart not stupid in not trying to find a women. You are waiting and living your life instead of just searching. And I have never been told I am pretty from a guy or attractive until my boyfriend and I started dating. I think it is just you are more mature. Do you flirt with girls?

Just make sure you are not the person like me that almost everyday someone asks me if I am new to the school. Even though I am a senior now and I started there as a freshmen.

People aren't like that thankfully. I can make friends quite easily, it's taking it further that I struggle with unfortunately.

Lucky you. Well that is how my boyfriend and I met. We became friends because he took the extra effort to come to the shy girl and try to get her to talk (me).

I guess because it seems common for most people to have had some sort of dating/relationship experience with the opposite sex before age 20/21, either that or you are probably an attractive guy to girls but just don't know it

I'm guessing you're attractive, but shy and awkward. You intimidate girls, good looking shy people get the crappy end because they can't approach and most women can't or won't.
