I don't know if I made myself clear, so any questions just ask. I'd really like to know your opinions on this topic.
P.S.: I won't refer any names in this assignment.
thanks in advance :)
I try not to be 'that girl' but I think I'm more materialistic this year than any year before. That disappoints me. I try to be laid back about things like that.
Am I the most materialistic person I know? No, there are people you are downright greedy and superficial that I know of.
I read what your definition of materialistic is and no I'm not materialistic.
I guess I'm hard on myself, I consider taking an insane amount of selfies or just being trivial as materialistic...but that's just being trivial and that's vanity. Sometimes I think I verge on being vain...but I don't care about money or expensive clothes.
There was one girl in a class of mine and every time she wanted something she would half demand/half ask our teacher (in her nasaly valley girl voice) to let her go here, to let her do that and the kicker.."come on, I'll give you 5 dollars, Oh come on 10, 20. I'll give you 20 dollars, you know you want it"
I actually avoid materialism as much as possible. These days with so many technology advances (smart phones, tablets, etc.), it pains me to go out to eat somewhere and everyone is on their phone, taking pictures of their food and tagging people on Facebook or whatever they're on. They don't hardly talk or even look at who they're actually with because they're so concerned about their little devices.
I purposely have a (looks like it came from the 90's) dumb phone, and have no internet or cable at my apartment.
More money, more stuff, more problems is how I see it.
no,i've been a minimalist for a while now, never particularly cared for money and stuff. but, that's probably because I had pretty much everything I wanted so it's easy for me to be all steve jobs ''do I really need a sofa?''. if someone felt less than at a certain point because of their lack of material possessions they will usually see them as a way to be happy (they're not). example:rapers bragging about gold chains and cars.
As Mr Yada said it is a subjective word and to varying degrees EVERYONE is. Some people are very materialistic of course and some are not very materialistic. I am materialistic in some ways I am not very proud of actually. When I die I cannot take all my fancy clothes with me. When I die I cannot take my car and truck and my electronics either. I accumulate too much in my opinion while others have very little or nothing to even eat. I am a hypocrite in many ways and wish I wasn't.
Define what you think is materialistic. It's a very subjective word.
Materialistic as in having a theory that worldly possesions have the highest value in life, or concerning more about these worldly possessions than personality values, etc., either in other people (for example, do you judge people for their appearance or only for their personality?) or in yourself (life goals - do you care a lot about money/success?). Hope I've made myself clear this time :)
Then no, I am not materialistic. I make a good salary, but have no desire to kill myself working 80 hours a week for a higher salary. I've turned down opportunities because I generally don't work overtime at my present position, and would rather spend time with my family. We do have many (probably too many) material possessions, but they don't rule my life.
