A: The guy might like girl A and doesn't want her to think he's "unavailable". Now, obviously he likes Girl B but maybe he hasn't decided if he wants Girl A as much or more than.
Or, for some reason, he's embarrassed. He might think that Girl A will think the affection is stupid.
