I was so excited it was this time of the year. I couldn't wait I always look forward to this time because it brings my family together. This is the time when you are packing your bags and getting ready to go off on a vacation. Ours was taking place in Ocean City (the month of July) where we usually go since we live in Maryland. We, my mom, grandma, brother, and aunt got packed up and started heading to Ocean City it was around a three hour drive so it usually was rather boring until we got within twenty or so miles of Ocean City. It was like if my soul itself was lifted and filled with happiness, anxiousness, and above all love. So when we got to the Ocean City we ended up staying at a Condo beach front which makes the view magnificent. The weather was beautiful and like always the first thing we do is not unpack our bags, but go to the beach. The weather was great with the sun shining way up in the sky. We had a great first day and went back to the condo to now unpack our bags, the not so fun part. A few days went by with the weather being beautiful and us like always going to the beach and having fun boogie boarding, swimming, or just sitting in the sun. I believe it was a Wednesday and we were on the beach just like any normal day except we showed up a little later since we went shopping first. I recall having tons of fun that day we were having so much fun. My brother and I were building sand castles. My mom, grandma, aunt had their chairs pulled up so when the tide would come up the water would hit their feet. Time passed and we all ended up doing our own thing. My mom and aunt went back to the condo to go to the bathroom. I on the other hand would practically do anything to stay on the beach even if that meant peeing my pants. I was only ten and my brother was eight. I remember my grandma saying for me to get my brother because it was time to eat. My grandma usually didn't bring food down either because we ate before or after. I thought oh well I'm hungry. So I started looking for my brother first scanning the sand looking for him to be building sand castles or something. He also likes feeding the seagulls cheetos. This was starting to get odd I couldn't find him. Now I'm starting to worry at this point I don't see him anywhere. I remember telling my grandma I can't find him so I recall very vividly her calling my brother's name as if it was yesterday. It seemed as if her voice could not penetrate the wind that had picked up. I thought this was bad not knowing where he was but it was worse we I saw him. I felt as if I could not help him as if he was going to die in front of my eyes. My brother was pulled out into the ocean. I won't forget looking up and not having a lifeguard there to save my brother they were off duty. My heart dropped, I remember feeling as if it was my fault because as an older brother I should look after him. By now I'm asking people left and right help my brothers drowning. Thank god there was a group of kids around the age I'm am now 17-18ish. A few of them were lifeguards for pools near their hometown. I just pointed with fear that it might be too late now that my brother has been out there for at least 15 minutes. I still remember exactly to the point of it being scary of them running and swimming through the water to save him. Finally the sign of relief they got him and brought him in he swallowed a lot of water but he was ok. I remember thanking them and my grandma telling my brother "Sammy that is your guardian angel." To this day I believe everything and anything happens for a reason.
