This myTake is about having a long-term partner. The real question is "Do you deserve one?"

1. You're insecure

Your insecurity would negatively affect this poor person, which is why nobody likes to be with an insecure person. No one deserves an insecure partner.

2. You're immature

Let's face it; relationships are not for immature people who don't fully know what they put themselves into. Relationships are for people (teenagers and adults) who think/act like adults, not for people who think/act like kids. Sex is definitely not for immature people because sex can lead to unplanned pregnancy and STDs.

3. You don't like to listen

What's the point of someone being in a relationship with you if you won't listen to him/her? No one likes to be ignored and no one deserves to be ignored in a relationship.

4. You have commitment issues

If you can't commit to one person then you shouldn't be in a long-term relationship. You shouldn't be wasting someone's time. No one deserves a person with commitment issues.

5. You're emotionally or physically abusive

This one doesn't need to be explained. There is no place for any kind of abuse in a relationship.

6. You haven't moved on

How are you supposed to start a new relationship if you haven't moved on from your previous relationship or your crush? No one likes to be part of a rebound.

7. You're selfish

Let's be real here; you can't be selfish in a relationship. That's not how it works in a relationship. You have to sacrifice for your partner and you should reciprocate.

8. You're not honest

Liars don't deserve to be in relationships. No one deserves to be lied to, especially the person you will be emotionally intimate with. Your partner needs you to be honest with them. For example, if you don't want a long term relationship then you shouldn't lie about wanting one.

9. You only want people out of your league

Yes, this shows you're not worthy of a relationship because you're so irrational and immature. Before any relationship starts, you have to date people first. Let's face it; you're most likely going to get rejected by people out of your league. I mean, people prefer to date within their league... To be honest, I would never date someone out of my league. It makes you a hypocrite if you think they are shallow for rejecting you because how does it not make you shallow when you only want to date people out of your league?

10. You're busy

You're partner needs your time and attention. If you don't have the time and energy to show attention to him/her then why would you want a partner?

Now ask yourself, would you want to date a person who has any of these signs?

About number 9, I have serious doubts you thought that through.

It's true people want to date within their league IF THEY ARE ATTRACTIVE. However, generally speaking, unattractive people don't find other unattractive people any more appealing than you or I find them appealing. The same forces at work in evolution that make people attractive work on everyone, ones and tens alike. Tens are attracted to tens, and ones are attracted to tens. Tens aren't attracted to ones, and ones aren't attracted to ones. Ones may settle for ones, but this doesn't mean they are physically attracted to ones.

Suppose an accident rendered you disfigured. Now you find yourself in this guy's league...

We agree it's wrong to disparage someone for rejecting a person because he/she doesn't find the other person attractive. But it's not hypocrisy for ones to desire tens. Nor is it hypocrisy for ones not to be attracted to other ones. It's just human.

I will admit, I've had my fair share of bitterness when rejected by a more attractive person. I keep that bitterness to myself though, but you really helped me understand the other side. It's just one of those unfair facts of life that everyone has to deal with. You can like who you want, but not everyone is going to like you.

Regarding the "You only want people out of your league" sign:

I'm actually repulsed by women who are "10"s. The reason is this: If a woman is that nice-looking, she more than likely is arrogant, self-entitled, immature, selfish, etc. The only way a really hot lady wouldn't be arrogant is if she went through childhood as an ugly duckling (which may cause her to appreciate things below the surface). Actually, come to think of it, there is another way, and that would be if this hypothetical really-hot lady is just a wonderful person on the inside as well. I myself am attracted to women who look like nothing special (which is certainly "my league" - with all due respect to myself).

10 is a compatibility issue. If you find someone else who wants the same level of involvement, no problem.

Realistically though, if you want not much contact, not much time together, or not much sexual contact, you're going to find relatively few people who are interested in a relationship with you. I wouldn't say that means you 'don't deserve one'. I would say that it means you need to recognize you're not looking for what most people are, and its not reasonable to expect others to adapt to you.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and what it really comes down to is are we a match?

I always hated when people said oh that girls out of your league, you should go for (insert girl who you don't find attractive). What's they're saying is you're ugly and you should go for other women that are ugly.

Now without sounding pretentious, I'm not picky at all but I at least have some standards. I mean the girl has to be somewhat attractive even though appearance isn't everything.
