10 Absolutely Terrible Pieces of Relationship Advice

MazeOfLove

We have all read advice columns or article headlines about sex, dating, and relationships. Some of the advice comes from a thoughtful place while a lot of it is nothing more than headline grabbing drivel. Below are 10 pieces of relationship advice that I am absolutely tired of reading.

10 Absolutely Terrible Pieces of Relationship Advice

1. ‘Leaving laundry on the floor’ and other relationship killers

Relationships are neither created nor destroyed by little things; only strengthened or damaged by them. It may appear as though Tammy broke up with Steve because he left his laundry on the floor but the fact is, that was just a symptom to a deeper rooted issue.

2. Care too little, you'll lose them. Care too much, you'll get hurt

Care your heart out and be who you are. If you’ll lose them or get hurt, the relationship is not healthy and it’s not about you. Don’t play games.

3. Relationships should be 50/50

No, they should be 100/100. Both people should give 100%.

4. This can save your relationship/marriage

Relationships and marriages do not form and sustain based on any singular thing and thus cannot be saved by any singular thing.

5. This can make them love you

No single thing can make someone love you, nor should you want to do anything to make someone love you.

6. This can win them back

Do you want advice about how to win someone back if they do not want to be back with you? Their desire to be back with you should be authentic and initiated from them.

7. This can prevent them from cheating

Do you really want advice on things to do or say to prevent someone from cheating on you? Should you have to take steps to ensure you’re not cheated on? Of course not.

8. The heart wants what it wants so just go with it

This is a great Selena Gomez song but terrible advice. You must balance the head and the heart or you will always end up getting hurt.

9. Find someone that will complete you

Absolutely not. You must love yourself first and find someone that will complement you.

10. Be realistic. You can't expect that (men won't cheat), (love won't fade a little), etc.

How about this. How about you accept what you need and nothing else. If we are to be ‘realistic’ and accept things that we otherwise don't like, those things will never change.
