Valentine's Day? No, thank you!

As the legend goes, everything started with Saint Valentine - a martyr from Medieval Italy - who got killed on February 14th. As time went by this day turned into a shopping frenzy when you absolutely have to get something for the one you love.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not one of those grumpy single people who hate Valentine's day and want nothing to do with it. I am happily married and love gifts as much as the next person, however some time ago my husband and I made a conscious decision not to celebrate this day. Why you'd ask?
The answer is simple. It's not about boycotting the commercialism of this holiday or lack of love in our family. Quite contrary - we made it a point to keep giving gifts and making small surprises for each other as often as possible, so our love is always felt. But if you leave candy and flowers for Valentine's day, how are you going to let your significant other know you love them the other 363 days of the year?
Let's show love to the special people in our lives without needing a reason for it, without a day marked on the calendar and not just because some poor Italian guy got murdered on that day.

Valentine's Day? No, thank you!
