I understand where you're coming from, sister.
I started dating when I met a guy on a train one afternoon and we really hit it off. We talked the whole way home. We then organised to go out to dinner and I put a safe guard in place. Basically for your own safety, make sure it's somewhere public, that you have enough money or a cab fare home and you have someone you can contact if for any reason things go wrong.
No, you certainly don't gave to be friends with benefits to start dating. Some of the best relationships began as friendships. Going into a relationship, you need to stay true to yourseof, and only do what your ready or comfortable with. If you'd like to go out with this guy, just say, ' So I saw the film. ... is on at the movie theatre and I was wondering if you want to go see it?' or 'I was wondering you'd like to hang out sometime?'

I learned from my last relationship that you have to get to know people, like see if you two have anything in common and just talk to each other. Relationships don't just happen right out of the blue they take a lot of time and effort.

They ask you to go somewhere or something. Usually friends with benefits stays as friends with benefits though. You can ask guys to go out somewhere to. Just go on a few dates and it starts from there
