Are you together in a relationship? Have you had the exclusivity talk? If you haven't then you have no right to expect an answer to your question and if you're worried about your feelings then remove yourself from the situation and if you are so concerned about STD's then ensure that contraception is worn and used. It's not full proof but it offers some form of protection.
So then you say that. You say "I enjoy being with you, but I'm also concerned with my health. If either of us are sleeping with other people, I'd like to know so I can take the necessary precautions"
I don't think you should worry about it. If there is a connection there and he is a good guy, typically he isn't sleeping with another person. If there are red flags, then you should ask... but don't put an awkward confusing moment in a good thing.
