You won't have to worry about him getting hurt over there, South Korea is a strong ally of the US and we're not at war with North Korea (not yet, anyway). Since this is your first time having a relationship become long distance, here are some helpful tips:
South Korea is 6 hours behind the US (this is assuming you live on the west coast), so all your talks with him (whether it's by text, phone, or video chat) will have to be planned.
Since he's in the military, he will be busy through out the day. There won't be any reason to overthink anything (overthinking is a huge stress causer) because you have an idea of what he'll be doing.
Communication is vital, even more so in an LDR. Always be open and honest with each other. Don't play any games with him and don't let him play any with you (I'm sure you two aren't like that, but this is just a precaution).
Since it's only 9 months, you won't have to worry about whether or not there'll be an end to the distance. Don't think too much about the time, and it'll go by faster.
If your anniversary or his birthday is within the 9 months that he'll be gone, mail him something if you can afford it. It doesn't have to be extravagant. It could be his favorite cologne that he can't get over there, the latest release of his favorite book series if he doesn't have it yet, his favorite snacks that are only in the US, something like that. Oh, and take some time to write him a letter. Sweet texts can be really nice, but a letter will go a long way too. It'll show him that you care that much about it because it takes more time to write and mail a letter than a text, so it's more personal.
Plan a party for him before he leaves (if he hasn't left yet) and plan a party for him for when he returns, he'll love it.

The red light district is nuts there and kgirls there love u. s military boys because of the good tips.
They have a bunch of hostess bars which is like a karaoke but with girls who serve u drinks and sit with u, u can do whatever u want to them.
I'm korean and my friends are nuts over there, I don't share drinks or cigs with them. Std is cray there
Korea is one of the best places he could get deployed too. Very developed and safe. He likely won't even see any action. I'd be very happy he's being sent there instead of the middle east or something. He'll love it. Being separated is never easy. I wish you both the best!
He's so lucky. I want to be stationed there. I'd focus on saving and planning for a nice vacation for when he comes back. That's what I told my boyfriend to do while I'm away.

Do something before he leaves form you to Korea so he ll always remember you and let yourself also remembering this n increase your love even if you are in distance. With a love, smily and in missing tone.
