Just tell him, you don't need to say why. Just that you're scared of the dark and need a lamp or something. I'm a couple years older than you and I'm scared of the dark to, but I've never met a guy who dissed me for it. They just say ok and keep the lamp on, maybe try act tough and say oh don't worry I'll look after you etc... He won't think you're pathetic. People have fears, whether it's dogs, spiders or the dark.
Try and get used to the dark though. It's good to try and get rid of fears, but it's not wrong to have fears.

I'd just tell him, i know it might be hard to share this kind of stuffs with someone but he might be able to help you to get over your fear of darkness.
If you have a boyfriend you shouldn't have a secret that big about your self... If he has a problem with it he isn't meant for you
