According to a recent study, a married man is about as likely to cheat on his wife as he is to experience a flight delay.

Really?

I'll admit I was a bit surprised, seeing as my flights seem to get delayed 50% of the time. Am I just unlucky? Doesn't that sound like an unbelievably high number of males who cheat in a relationship?

And what about women? Based on studies I've read in the past, it seems like women are around half as likely to cheat as men. (Or maybe the ladies are just more sneaky about it...)

I'm sure if I Googled (which I automatically do with anything I'm curious about) I could find plenty of studies, but I don't want to turn this into a scientific debate. Of course, I'm curious about other factors, such as age range, age difference between a couple, how long a couple has been together, sexual preference, maybe even career choices... I know for sure that finance influences the likelihood of cheating. There are tons of studies about that one. 

I am curious to know, within this online community, how many of you have cheated (which is why I'm including a poll! Yay!) To make it more accurate, I'm choosing to include anonymous users (because some people might not want to admit it even if their personal information isn't in their profile).

I do want to be clear — this isn't a judgy thing. Obviously, cheating isn't the best thing in the world, but it's also not the worst. People make mistakes. That means keep it clean in the comments! Be honest, of course, but let's not resort to name-calling or anything like that. (I mean, we're all mature, right? Sort of. I don't know. Maybe.)

I've been married for 30 years and it's wonderful for both of us but yes, I did cheat once.

I was in London, on a business trip all by myself. It was the rainy season and they had record rainfall. The trip sucked. Everything went wrong.

At the time me and my wife were "okay" (even a good marriage tends to swing back and forth between good times and not so good).

I couldn't even find any decent food - but one night I decided to eat at the pub right next door to my hotel.

I had a really beautiful waitress who was from Surrey. I was 40 at the time... she was 25. I absolutely didn't make the first move. I was nice to her though... I mean, she was pretty and bubbly and had a great personality.

She was also lonely too.

I clearly had my wedding ring on, I was never one of those guys who took it off on business trips, as I notice a lot of guys do that I travel with.

She got off her shift while I was still enjoying a drink and she asked if she could have one with me. I said, sure.

There's a really strange thing that happens when people of the opposite sex meet who are attracted to each other and they are also from different cultures. I was an American and she was a Brit, from Surrey - of all places. Surrey - it's a different place. The cultural differences almost draw you together - curiosity, I don't know what it is.

So one thing led to another. I remember telling her I was married... I remember her saying... "I have no intention of stealing you from your wife."

It's NOT her fault though. She didn't really throw herself at me - just gave me those female body-language clues that said she was available, if I wanted her.

And... I did.

So it happened. It was protected sex - she had a condom.

It was actually wonderful with her.

I felt really bad about it after though. If I had told my wife about it - it would have been curtains for the marriage. And I had three kids and if we had gotten divorced, the family would have been separated. My son really needed me around at the time because he was experiencing some issues.

So I didn't tell. My son and one of my daughters is grown now - and they are prefect - both college grads (and I paid for their college, no loans / grants). They each have a six figure job. And I have one teenaged daughter who's still in the house.

For awhile (like maybe YEARS), I felt like shit. Now that time has passed, I realize that I'm only human. And - it was kind of a special night with that girl - a memory I'll never forget.

Closest I ever came to cheating, was studying safety nets when I started wondering if there was any hope. Turns out, neither the nets nor the gal I was with in those instances was worth my time, so I had to walk away from the gal and forget about the nets.

And with the one gal, Annamae, I gave up too soon. She was too perfect. Kicked myself for it later. Been cheated on by Wilgrace. The others were just in it for the thrills, and otherwise didn't really care. Many of them abandoned me in ways that were downright cold.

During my first relationship (15-17years old) I cheated on my boyfriend all the time and he cheated on me as well but he his it a lot better than I did. I didn't think it was right or anything like that but it happened quite often.
My current boyfriend of 5 years cheated on me in the very beginning of our relationship (like 2 weeks in) but hasn't done it since and I have never cheated on him.

I did cheat on my boyfriend within the first three months. I had to do it because I didn't no if I wanted to settle down with him. The guy I cheated on him with showed me how good of a guy I had. My boyfriend blew him out of the water ! Personality wise!!! I love my boyfriend and I will not cheat again. Thankfully it taught me a very valuable lesson. " cheating isn't worth it".

Hmm. I answered yes, because there were times when I was 15-16 that I kissed another girl besides my (at the time) girlfriend. When I grew up a little, I thought back on that and felt like a real scumbag. As an adult, I have never cheated, and don't think I ever would. I try to be a man of integrity. I tend to be pretty devoted, and if I'm not, I'd rather just end the relationship. I have been cheated on many times, though. It's really hurtful and shakes your confidence. It can be very tough to recover from.

I could tell what was going through her mind but the look on her face was priceless... totally worth it.

I can prove that women cheat far more but only because they can get sex far easier..

Men find far more women attractive then women find men.
30% of guys getting no sex. 20% of guys have difficulty getting sex and aren't in relationships. 40% of guys in relationships and it married. Of those guys, half aren't getting much sex anymore from their girlfriend or wife. Then you have 10% of guys sleeping with all the girls.
So to cheat, then they in relationship which means we only consider 40% of guys.

I assure you, if their own girls has lost attraction enough to want to sleep with them, you think other women are going to see him and feel attracted? As it is, women find the majority of men unattractive across the board anyways. At least half of these guys have zero opportunity to cheat. Every woman though, regardless how far and ugly can find some dude who will want to stick it in. Just ask any overweight woman how many matches they get on dating apps

While in the Navy, I saw many, many guys cheat while overseas. Even one officer who took his son (enlisted sailor) out with him in the Philippines, where he had a girlfriend there, making his son promise not to tell his mother. To me that is sick. Yet some men think that is fine.

Yes, my ex did. Shamelessly. Final blow that ended a marriage. We weren't right for each other so really she did me a favor. From my small sample set of friends and acquaintances the cheaters in the 70s were predominantly men by 00's it had flipped - all have been women. Just my experience, not implying that is the norm.

I've cheated, and been cheated on. I haven't cheated as a means of revenge. I often wondered why i done it, and why it has been done by someone i love. I've come to the conclusion it's all down to ego and circumstance. As long as it never strays into romance, but just the experience, it's not harmful.
It makes me believe that everyone is entitled to a fun fuck. But be open and honest about it while you're in a relationship.

I did cheat on an exGF 5 years ago because the relationship became virtually sexless. Whenever i'd initiate sex and physical intimacy she'd turn me down which hurt. I also felt rejected, so out of spite I cheated on her numerous times without her even knowing. In the end we broke up since she took a job overseas.
