What's the longest time that two people in a long distance relationship can go without seeing each other in your experience?

I am in a long distance relationship with my boyfriend of two years. We generally try and see each other every three to four months, but the last time we met was in December, 2015 and there is no chance of seeing each other again until July, 2016. This will be the longest we will go without seeing each other and it's killing me. If any of you have been in a LDR, what's the longest you guys have gone without seeing your SO and how was the experience. How did you deal with it? Detailed answers are welcome.

I've been with my girlfriend for almost seven months, and we haven't even had the chance to meet in person yet because the distance and cost to make it possible is great.

The closest we've had to it is skyping. We didn't do it until after three months of knowint each other, and since then we hate going more than a few days without doing so if we don't have to.
