Would you be upset if your partner left you alone on New Years Eve?

Normally I spend my New Years with the people I love the most so my family, my best friend or my boyfriend (& his friends)..

My boyfriend told me wanted to be with his friends on a 'boys night out' this year (I've only ever spent one NYE with him out of 5 years of being together)

I explained to him him that my sister is out of town, my dad is with his girlfriend, my brother is working and my best friend is out of the country.. So I would be alone

he says that he's still going out with the boys and he'll book me a hotel room to stay in for the night BY MYSELF to make it up to me...

I'm really upset by this. He knows if he was left alone on New Years I'd take him out with me or cancel with the girls to be with him

am I overreacting?
do I have a right to be upset?

So.. we were in the hotel together at about 9.. he told me to get ready and come with him while he was in the shower
So I started to get ready then he came out the shower asked me 'why you getting ready for I was joking' and started laughing...
He gets ready infront of me boasting about how good he looks and how excited he is to go out..

Anyway I've broken up with him.

Overreaction or not he's an inconsiderate selfish person and this isn't the first time he's done something like this

In your shoes, yeah that would kind of suck and the way you feel about it is very valid and justifiable. I guess making it up to you some other day (with him being involved) would of been a better idea, but he's intentions must of been good, i don't think he meant bad by it at all.

If my boyfriend wanted to spend time having a boys night out, I would be cool with it. I'm not going to hold a grudge on him about it, or seek revenge you know. It's just whatever in the end, and I get to stay home and have some me time. So if anything use it as a time to do what YOU want to do. Get your nails done, or shop for things that are related to your hobbies and interest.

This is exactly what happened to me today. I'm in a relationship of 5 years. Its a long distance relationship. This is the first time he's in my country to celebrate new year. But he chose to have a boys night out. I dont have any friend to go out or celebrate. So l'll be at home all alone by myself. I argued today. he's not talking to me now. Didn't call me or text. He said you go make friends and enjoy with them. Let me enjoy with my friends. Now I was thinking its my fault I shouldn't have argued with him. So what I did. I emptied one bottle of vodka cried n slept. I'll celebrate new year with myself

I don't know, on the one hand I wouldn't want him to cancel with his boys because I'd feel like he'd be angry because he'd been planning this for a while.

But I'd still be upset if he went out, I don't think you have a right to be upset because it's not like he's leaving you at a difficult time (unless it is I dunno I'm just assuming)

You can have an equally great time on your own, just get yourself a bottle of wine or your favourite takeaway, get a message watch a few movies you might find the time alone relaxing

Yeah that's really shitty. I mean last year my boyfriend (now ex) left me alone but he was in Germany with his family so he actually had a good reason. I worked that night and went home, bought myself a pizza, and bought some new bikinis lol. But anyway yeah, you have a right to be upset.

Knowing your alone and it would be upsetting he really should have offered for you to come with or said we'll do dinner together first then he can go meet the boys. At least tried to come up with some type of solution instead of you being all alone.

That's how I met my wife.
Her boyfriend left her alone on new years and I was willing to spend time with her.
She found out why he was "alone" on new years a few days later and Left his sorry ass. A few months later we started dating and have been together ever since.

Reply to update: This guy sounds like a very poor excuse for protoplasm. You probably could have pulled out a gun and shot him when he did that and most juries would rule it was justifiable homicide.
