i don't think this says he's not worried about your safety. he may not have thought it was an unsafe situation.

It's probably that he didn't notice those guys or didn't think that they were dangerous. You definitely shouldn't be worried about it unless you are sure that the danger is real (people carrying unlicensed firearms, gang-fights, etc.)
He's right. You're a grown adult, why should he be concerned about your safety anymore than you are of his?
Clearly you aren't concerned about his safety either or you wouldn't have expected him to go there instead.
