Has anyone gotten into a physical fight with a parent?

I'm just curious as to what made it physical and if you felt bad for hitting your parent/guardian. I got into an argument with my mother today. she slapped me in the mouth for saying she was ignorant because she was going on this ridiculous rant about the word "gay" and how if you say gay, you'll let "gayness" into the house. one of my best friends is gay, and she knows this, so it's a sensitive subject and my mother's homophobia is annoying anyway.

when she slapped me, I pushed her away from me (she kept trying to hit me) and at one point I grabbed and twisted her wrists back because she kept hitting me as I tried to walk away. apparently this was "disrespectful" according to my siblings, but I'm 22 years old and I don't take to kindly to somebody slapping all over me. besides, I didn't hit, I restrained more than anything.

i just wanted your opinions on the issue of a physical altercation with parents. do you, as a child, regardless of age, have to keep your hands to yourself no matter what?

My dad and I are as Tekken's Kazuya and Heihachi Mishima. We always have a point we would fight each other... In fact, since our last fight approx 1 year ago, I have not talked to him.

Our last fight was about me and HIS bad habits. He thinks I am gay because for one, I am UNWILLING to have sex with a woman unless I am married to her first, plus I have not dated in over 8 years, AND the fact that I am EXTREMELY selective of whom I date. In fact, he attempted to set me up with his ex wive's niece! Well, they were still married at the time. Our point of contention with each other is that he thinks I lack masculinity, and I think he is a manwhore... BTW, he is divorced twice for cheating... I have utter contempt for cheating, and I have extreme contempt for people who has cheated on ANYONE. In fact, his ex's niece was engaged at the time!

We argued, and he was drunk. I am f*cking 32, (31 at the time) and would be damned if anyone, including a viagra munching womanizer, attacks me! Even if he is my father.

We went at each other as two pit-bulls, in a dog fighting pit. We had to be knocked off of each other. My dad was an amateur boxer in the USMC, and myself a Mixed Martial Artist. In fact, I was the one knocked off of him, I had him in a chokehold, because, I would be hurt badly from a toe-to-toe straight punc from him. In fact he punched me and knocked me down first. I had to pull hiom down to me in order to survive the fight. In the aftermath, I broke one of his teeth, gave him several bruises around the neck and waist. I got the worst end requiring several stitches. If I had it to do again, I would probably not have attempted to choke him out.

Retrospectively, Fights are almost unavoidable with him, and so, I avoid contact with him.

Well my father would get pretty abusive while drunk when I was younger. I mean when I was REALLY young he would really do a number on me. As I got older and older it happened less often between me threatening to move out and my self-defense. Now I am fully grown and much bigger, stronger, and younger than he is so he wouldn't dare now. There was a time when he threatened my mom and my sister and I absolutely exploded... I couldn't control my self.. my fist found his jaw and he crumpled to the floor. I actually thought I killed him at first and felt sickened by the thought that I didn't care that much which brought me back to reality. Turns out he was just passed out. When I was around 18 he told me that I was lucky that I'm so much bigger than he is now which pretty much revealed his cowardice. He has become much better with alcohol now and only once in a while does he get p*ss drunk and never gets violent he might yell on occasion though. Surprisingly we are pretty close now and do a lot of work on his house together... I suppose we try not to dig up the past.

I have never taken a sip of alcohol in my life and don't plan on it as I know how addictions tend to run in my family. My father wasn't the only one unfortunately.

If someone is coming at you like that, parent or not, I don't think you have to keep your hands to yourself. Self defense.

When I was younger my dad came at me in a fit of rage. I fought back as hard as I could trying to defend myself. Not that I could do much good, because he was much bigger than I. He over stepped the boundaries, and when boundaries are plowed through, I tend to fight back.

About 2 years ago, my mom was in a depressed state.. I felt bad for her and I tried to help her, but it pissed me off when she told someone on the phone that if anyone found her dead it was because she killed herself because of me. It hurt me, and made me angry, and I snapped that if she killed herself, it was because of her own cowardice and not because of me. She smashed a barstool over my head. I didn't fight back in this case. Mostly because it hurt like hell. Lol. But I don't think I would have been in the wrong to do so.

Just because they're my parents doesn't mean they can put their hands on me with an intent to harm.

My dad slapped me across the face last year because we were arguing about something and I said to his face "i don't give a F***!"

We don't really swear in my house so that was quite a shock for him to hear his daughter say that to him.

Thinking back, I really shouldn't have said that to him, he's always been a really good dad except for this. But I reacted out of anger by saying that and he reacted out of anger by slapping me.

Neither should have been said and done.

We're totally fine now.

Good for you for defending yourself. You're an adult, and there is no excuse for your mom acting that way. She can calmly express her opinion without resorting to violence.

If I was in your situation, I would do something similar to what you did. You should never take any physical abuse from anyone, even a parent.

I got in a physical altercation with my father not so long...it all stared because I was driving and we got lost so I was telling him to guide me because I never been by that area...all of a sudden he stared screaming and yelling at me saying he was tired of me because he had to do everything for me(he doest do sh*t for me I got to college and I handle all my bills) and the reason why I was driving that nigh was because he was drinking which he is like everyday...when he kept screaming I told him "bro your so f***ing annoying...and then I procced to tell him he was full of sh*t...i notice he got angry and at that moment I appollgies for being rude...i was driving but I was also looking at him in the face...when he accepted the apology and I stared looking straight at the road he the proceed to punch me two times in the face and he left my the part of my lower eye swollen...when we got home(I kept my composure all the time in the car) when we got home he got in my face and was trying to choke me...that's when I lost my compuser and slam him against a fence...i never throw a punch because I'm a lot younger and stronger than him...we don't talk to each other since that day...

Does not really matter , you did not hit back and I think that she should understand that you are not a kid and she should not and can not hit you anymore .

I only got in a physical fight with my father once , but he is not really worth the title or the respect so I'll confess , I did slap him on the face :P , well I was like 4 years old with a broken elbow and he came to see me in the hospital with his girl friend , I did worn him not to kiss me :P , but some people won't listen :P , Now that I think of it I can only smile :) and say , maybe I should have punched his teeth of :P (I joke . No hate there ).

yes I have I punched my dad and knocked him to ground after he took a swing at me for slamming a door to hard it was an air tunnel effect my window was open and it closed the door harder then what it was suppose to needless to say after I did that dad doesn't take a swing at me anymore

You're fine with what you did.

If your mom, or a friend, or anyone slaps you/punches you, that is reason enough to get physically agressive.

If you end up taking slaps/punches, and do nothing about it, your mom will 'get away with it' and she'll promote herself to beating you in the future. But if you stand your ground and slap her back, and get more agressive, then she'll learn her lesson and not do it again.

Your siblings are wrong. Tell them to get their f*cking facts straight.

My opinion on your situation - Your mother was the immature one in my opinion. A lot of adults have immature characteristics and being homophobic is pretty immature and close minded. Also physical violence is also an immature way to handle a situation. However, you should still accept and love your mother for who she is and don't try to change her (it will be a big waste of energy). It's not completely your mother's fault for being homophobic, it's just that she grew up in a different generation than you.

I have gotten into physical fights with my dad in the past (all started with him hitting me first usually). Nothing good came from it and we actually broke a glass table we had in the living room once. We haven't fought in over 4 years and have a good relationship.
