My dad is way too overprotective..... please help!!!

ok so I have no idea what to do. I'm 16, I know it says I'm older, I'm not trying to hide my age, I don't know y it did that. but anyways obviously my dad is overprotective to the point where if I have guys in my contacts I get in trouble. a little crazy right? he thinks jsut because of that I'm "doing something" with them. theyre just my friends and now just so I can talk to them I have to give them code names. any dads out there who do this to their daughters? I NEED HELP PLEASE!

I don't have a dad, but I have a really OVERPROTECTIVE mom. Over the past like 6 months, I've talked to her A LOT about how I'm 16, and I like talking to and hanging out with guys. When I talk to her I'm very blunt and mature. Like I'll say "Just because I'm hanging out with guys doesn't mean I'm having sex with them." I think that took some of her worries away. Buut if I want to hangout with guys I still have to have a group of people (with other girls), and that is our compromise.

I don't get why your dad doesn't want you to even talk to guys... like it's really messed up if he doesn't want you to talk to like half the population. He probably has a really good reason, that I don't know. So, you should just talk to him about it, and come to an understanding.

I think you should explain to him that they are only friends and that even though he may not be comfortable with you having guy friends, you are going to have them regardless of his preference. Assure him that you will be careful and that if you hang out with them, you will be with another friend that's a girl. Tell him girls are two timing and conniving and you would like to branch out a little and make all sorts of friends. When you talk to him, make sure you stay calm, cool, collected, and mature.

I understand the protectiveness because dads know what teenage boys are after and dads are there to make sure they don't get it. Not being able to have any contact is a bit extreme though. Recognize that it's not having anything to do with trusting you and has everything to do with trusting them.

I know this doesn't help your situation; just want you to know that this protection is because he doesn't want any snot-nose teenage boy hurting his little girl.

my sister was so mad and crying cause my dad and not even a wee k later she was at his funrel

so it could be worse

dads will be dads

and we will protect our daughters

True.... only a guy can know what other guys are like really. its necessary for the dad to protect the daughter but being overbearing can be bad for the relationship between the two. there should be some trust between them... which I think is most important next to communication

All ime saying is that he knows that there arr guys out there who are gonna want sex and take advatge of your body and say "i love you" he doesn't want that he wants you safe and happy

Well ime not a dad but I take the father figure for my 3 younger sisters since my dad died and ime 9 years old then all them and he died when I was 15 so yeh
