Its most likely because you share that with him and there are less gamer girls then guys from my knowledge.
Its an interest he doesn't have to cut back as much as he would have needed to if he met a non gamer girl. He can share his interest with you and know you like the same and you can do something fun together.
Whereas if it was a non gamer girl he might need to cut back a lot of that time or other interests to make time for them both because the interests would vary too much.
Its always a big plus when when you share each others major interests together and can continue with them even after hooking up.

I'm not sure about people under 19 but for me growing up hearing about girl gamers was on the same level as someone saying they seen a unicorn or something. so now when I see or hear of girl gamers I think it's really cool because adding a girl to a group usually makes things fun.
I say it's more because he's lucky to have a girl friend who also likes games rather than a girl friend who shuns his gaming life and want's him to stop "wasting time"
PS: I have played with a few girls while gaming when I was younger but they were usually a Girlfriend but I think there was one that was single before.
Because you share something that's not that common as a girl, with him. He feels that you can understand the things he likes and thus you're less likely to judge him for it. A lot of girls put down guys who play games, most will do it out of ignorance.
As someone who used to game, I do not agree with the majority of guys liking gamer girls. :P
However, the ones that don't mind tend to point out wanting to have a girlfriend who likes games!
He's happy to have a girlfriend like you that likes video games etc. because mostly of the girls doesn't like it and tend to be more interested about some social media or stuff. My close boy friend also did say that mostly of gamers he encountered prefer girls who likes/love games 'cause they'll be rarely shun or nah, it's a good bonding which both of you can enjoy.

It totally depends on the guy, I have a very addictive personality so when I start something I tend to get addicted to it, this includes games so I try not to touch them.
I broke my ps3 in 2008 so have no play'ed much since, a gamer girl to me isn't that appealing any more then one that isn't just because I am not really a "gamer". Guys who are however will love itBecause you wanting to play with him is like... a guy wanting to go shopping/browsing with his girl.
I love the thought of having a girl that will play games with me, but I know I would hate a relationship with a girl that wanted me to play often.
I know I need someone that will want to get out and do stuff with me, keep both of us active around the house too with chores and cooking, and be more engaged with me directly than through electronics while we are physically near each other.Gamer guys like them because it's a shared interest and as usually girls don't like computer games - they react increasingly anxiously finding out that the girl also is playing something...
..after all - what can be more romantic than discussing about the new patch or talking about that time when you killed 30 bad guys in a row without losing health points...Its nothing to do with gaming. Its he has someone who does with him what he really enjoys. The same would be if you both liked music or sports

This is why...
It's a common interest, if you had the same interest in fishing as him he'd love it all the same. No I don't think he thinks that you're doing it just for him but that it's mutual.
It's more like... gamer girls are rare, and he's got one.
You're like a Premium card in the game of collectibles we call life.I think it might be becuase guys like strong female leads so it probably makes them horny on the inside...plus if they win they will think the just totally won you over
