Upset that my boyfriend always seems to cancel on me last minute!

Okay so this has been going on for a while. I never told him how it made me feel because I didn't want to come across as a crazy girlfriend.

But I am pretty upset. My boyfriend has been away for the last 5 weeks for training, he's in the military. During that time I barely get to talk to him, he's either out with the guys or just not able to access a computer.

So I have been desperate to see him again. We have been going out for over 1.5 years.

He's coming home this weekend so we made plans to see each other. I have been looking forward to this for the last few weeks, as I haven't seen much of him lately and don't get to talk to him much.

Well last night he called me to tell me that his family has a birthday party to go to and that he won't be seeing me. He said he's going to try to squeeze me in Friday night (which I know won't happen) and then leave early with them to drive them where they need to go.

What makes me upset is that I know on Friday he will get off around 12, but he will go see his friends. And then not be able to see me because it's a 5 hour drive home, and since he's with friends he will be out late.

Also, his cousin's always bring their bf's and gf's along. I have only once been invited to any of these family functions. The only time I was ever invited was because I was driving my boyfriend somewhere after and I think he felt bad if he didn't invite me.

His cousin's bf's and gf's get to go to every thing. So it makes me feel unimportant :( I only find out after that they got to go and it hurts me a lot.

Am I being selfish? What should I do? I'm so disappointed that I won't get to see him this weekend, as I've been going on for weeks about how much I miss him :(

Unfortunately, you have put in a lot of effort with a guy whos emotions for you are limited, your basically OK for now, but this is not going to last long now, and unless you do finish it, he will eventually end up really hurting you emotionally, because you will either have to accept that your the girl he will come and see when nothing better is going on, and his mates will always come first, and he will rarely take you out where his friends are there aswel, and no guy has the right to treat a girl this way, and wouldn't if he cared something for her, so finish this unfuldilling and uncaring relationship and make room for a guy who is willing to show you his worth towards your talents, because if you have to prove to him your worthy, then the relationship is doomed, you have talents, they won't go unnoticed, but this guy your with don't notice you anyway,x

I don't think your being selfish. Your boyfriend is being selffish by not seeing you and wanting to spend time with you. He should at least see you even if it isn't for a long time. But the point is if he made an effort. I know sometimes things come up with family and friends. But sometimes those things should be balance when your in a relationship with someone. If yo uand him been together for 1.5 years then he should appreciate the time you dedicated to him. He shouldn't be taking you for granted.
