Is it OK to tell a guy you are excited to see him?

I'm texting a guy who moved to a different state and is visiting in the next month. We used to text every day straight for months and we hung out quite a bit. He told me frequently how much he liked me and then he moved further away. We were never dating but it felt like it because he did little things like take me out and pay, held my hand, was slightly protective (not overly so tho.) and always told me how much he cared about me and how much he liked me and we talked about anything and everything and teased each other playfully as well.

Towards the last few months before he moved, he changed a little and didn't talk to me as much yet still reassured his feelings towards me-when I didn't ask him either. But he told me he didn't want a long distance relationship but he thought we have something great so maybe someday if we are near each other, we can have a relationship. But for now, he just wants to keep in touch and hang out when we can (when he visits).

I'm still sad about it so occasionally, I will drink some and text him (I know, stupid) how much I miss him or that I'm thinking about him and he'll respond saying he misses talking to me and that I'm always on his mind. He told me he's visiting next month and that we are definitely hanging out.

I was thinking about responding that I'm excited to see him, but I don't know if that's too eager or clingy sounding. I am excited to see him but I'm not sure how guy's take that when a girl says it.

Is it OK to say? Or how else can I word it?
