Why is it ok for guys to be overweight but not girls?

I saw another post about why guys are rude to fat girls. This got me thinking.
Why is it okay for guys to be fat or overweight but it's not okay for girls to be fat? Why is it socially acceptable? Please, someone help me understand this.
