This is my honest opinion from my observation of the subject, if you disagree please say so. I honestly haven't heard any arguments against this when I've said it. So it would be interesting to hear the other side's.
Looking at our history of putting stricter laws and rules on women for their sexuality, along with not being able to find a logical reason why people would get mad over a girl who sleeps around, I came to the conclusion that basically slut shaming is our version of oppressing women in our current time.
Let me explain :
Here are some ways women were oppressed in American history and I'll link it to this slut shaming. For starters earlier in our history women were automatically arrested for prostitution if they were seen in a bar while guys could do what they wanted in bars with no problems.
Fast foward a little and it was illegal for women to have premarital sex while guys could, if a girl got pregnant before marriage or they were caught having sex, the girl was arrested and the guy didn't get in trouble.
While getting closer to our time, there was a period where girls couldn't wear clothes that showed skin a ridiculously small number of inches from her knee. Also the girls who wore shorts were either labeled sluts, rebels, or both.
Those were all examples of obvious oppression of women, they were desexualized or held to a higher standard than guys. In those times women were really oppressed in America.
Now to our current time , slut shaming is our version of that oppression of women today. We're doing the same thing as we were in history, but just not as bad, its still there though. I didn't know the ways we oppressed women in our country's history, so I didn't link this together until I was taught about the past oppression. Do you see the pattern?
I was against it already because I couldn't find a difference between when a guy sleeps with a lot of girls compared to when a girl sleeps with a lot of guys. The only thing I agree with is that its an accomplishment when a guy sleeps with a lot of girls and when a girl does it, its not an accomplishment. As long as it didn't seem weird , a guy would usually hook up with a random girl he met that day or the next time they saw each other if she offered and was attractive. But a girl is less likely to do that with a guy she doesn't really know. So the guy has to overcome an obstacle to have sex with her while the girl doesn't. Thats the only difference. As long as she's not ruining other people's relationships by seducing guys its fine. For dating, as long as they don't cheat its fine.
Also being a really good looking guy, in college I get sexual advances from girls I barely know pretty often. I found out if you look the part girls are almost or just as sexual as guys are. Or maybe they are in general, so girls having handfuls of partners is normal because I know how common it is for girls to want to hook up with someone they found really attractive. So factor that in.
But after making the connections in our history, the fact that its just another form of oppression is one of the main reasons I'm against it now.
It's a pattern that started in a sexist society that shouldn't be in a tolerant society.
And the thing is, being raised in a society that looks down on slutty behavior, it influences the way we think and reason about gender issues like this, whether you're consciously aware of it or not. We all have personal biases, and they form from what we've experienced during our whole lives. So its hard to say that guys who judge girls who sleep around find it unappealing to date, or hook up with, or both, do it because thats how they'd think even if there wasn't any form of slut shaming, or if they do it because they were influenced by society, whether knowingly or unknowingly. Same thing with girls shaming other girls, do they do it because our societies values and norms influenced them, or would they do it anyway?
And yes being raised in a society that thinks a certain way can affect your morals and values. Like in certain countries its normal for a 14 year old girl to be married off to a 40 year old guy she doesn't even know. To them thats not weird at all, but in America thats weird, unacceptable, and just completely looked at differently in our society because our values are different here.
So the only way to know if it's because our society has some leftover sexist values and norms from our previously intolerant society is if the negative associations with girls being sexual were gone and a couple new generations lived in that society.
Its like how girls couldn't wear shorts let alone a bikini in our history, but now girls wear short shorts and wear bikinis at the beach. Those guys and girls in our history probably looked at girls wearing shorts as we look at girls being "sluts" now, or if not completely sleeping around then just doing "unacceptable sexual behavior" for a girl.
Most likely it will die out like the other forms of oppression did, but it might do it with our upcoming generations of Americans.

Are you only implying the slut shaming? Or are you implying what we did in history? Because we know we messed up by doing that in the past.
