Why No One Should Use The "N" Word

I understand that some people feel as if the negative connotation behind the word "nigger" is gone, by removing the suffix "er" and replacing it with an "a" ending.
When this change is made the word is no longer is recognized as one that expresses overt racial hatred, instead it is looked at as a friendly greeting amongst those who share the same racial background.

Why No One Should Use The

The "Blacks" (The insiders), who use it amongst eachother see the word as harmless. It simply means the word(s) "boy", "man", or "friend" depending on the context it is used in. However, when a person of a different race (An outsider) uses this word as a "friendly greeting" towards Blacks, suddenly whether the suffix "er" was dropped and replaced with an "a" becomes irrelevant.
The word automatically is changed back to its original context, of when its first degrading meaning was adapted. This is a time when Blacks were enslaved, lynched, treated as inhumane, raped, whipped, chained, and tortured to death.

The anger and the outrage one has when they hear outsiders using this word goes beyond limits. Should it really take a different race uttering those words to Blacks (who choose to express themselves in this manner), to understand the true depths of this word?

So many Blacks endured horrible mistreatment because they chose to stand their ground, fight for their rights, and not be treated as a word that set us up to die. They sacrified themselves to build a platform for Blacks to live a life of freedom. If not for them standing their ground, whose to say Blacks would exist today?

Why No One Should Use The "N" Word

Why No One Should Use The "N" Word

If I am a woman and I preach female empowerment, would it make sense that I refer to all of my lady friends as "bitches?"
This word is setting women back by far, it is undoing all that we have accomplished as a sex.
What If I play with the word a little, remove and replace a few of its letters, to alter it to what I want other women to perceive it as?
Would that change the fact that when I use the word in public, everyone is still hearing the same pronounciation, which holds a negative connotation behind it?
Should I get angry when a man (an outsider), enters my female group (the insiders) and says to us, "What's up my bitches?"
What if I use this word around my nieces, nephews, and my children. What am I saying to them?
By using the word, "bitch" I am subconsiously saying I am okay with others using it.
I am giving them permission to call me it as well.
Why would they think otherwise? When I am happily greeting my lady friends with a huge smile on my face, as I bring my lips together to form this ugly word?

Why No One Should Use The "N" Word

Why does a man, entering our group change the meaning of a word that was seen as "positive" a few moments before?
If I truly hate a word and want to fight against its ugly, and preach female empowerment,
I will do so without ever uttering those words I deeply depise.
I will understand that no alteration of the word is acceptable, especially in the eyes of someone who has a devil's soul.
Contexts, and suffix endings will not matter,
they will view you with hate and you are giving them that pleasure by using words that are devaluing.

Why No One Should Use The "N" Word
Not all "outsiders" who say the "n" word are using it as a way to racially divide.
They are using it in the same context, that many of us preach is okay.
But is the word really acceptable?
If it were then some of us would not react with such passion and outrage, when it's used it reference to us.
If we hate it so much shouldn't we abolish it from our vocabulary?
The word holds so much offense, I think it's fair to say no one should use it.
Those that do, should understand that they are leading by example and letting others know it's okay to use it as well.
Even if this word were to be completely erased from the mouths of all Blacks, there will still be those who run around and use it. But by your actions, you are not partaking in the ignorance of others.
You are not getting intertwined within the devil's soul.
You are not allowing yourself to be wrapped up in the hate that is attached to the original word.
You are allowing yourself to be free.
Free of ignorance, limitations, and detriments.

Why No One Should Use The "N" Word

There's so many Blacks that do not use this word, but for those of you that do please understand the message you are sharing to others.

  • I wish this Take had've gotten WAY more comments. I do admit that I have used the word several times myself, though I mostly use it to refer to ghetto, shameful blacks, and not in a good way. To me they are "niggers," hanging out on street corners, around liquor stores, smoking weed, rapping, looking like they just got out of bed. Or the ones that walk into a WalMart or Target wearing ugly weave and cheesy clothes and makeup and cussing loud on their phones or cussing their kids out and acting like trash out of Landover or southeast D. C. To me these types are "niggers," yeah.

So I certainly don't use it in a friendly way, but I do agree that we shouldn't throw it around as regularly and acceptibly as we do. Hell, it's so acceptable that Omarion used it like crazy in his song "Post To Be"! That's a problem there.

  • Yea, I definitely agree. No one should use this word in any context. Even African Americans, it's like right when that word started to go away black people brought it back themselves and I don't understand it. Now everyone of any race thinks they can use it without being offensive. I don't care if they're kidding or not, I never allow people to call me that. Being black I have family members that are still living that were around during the time of segregation and things like that and boycotting and I feel like the use of this word mocks everything that was fought so hard for. It's really disrespectful and sad quite frankly.

  • When black people themselves stop saying it I will take this seriously.

    • That's my overall point here...

  • Excellent myTake! In my opinion, any word that has some racial connection, shouldn't be used by anyone. Period.

  • agree agree agree... no one should use the word or any of it's derivatives. the argument that we remove the negative associations to me is nonsensical. That's like saying lets say the word Nazi so much that Jewish people no longer associate with teh extermination of 8million people. it's a word with negative denotations and connotations and thus should not be used... omitting a word from our vocabulary shouldn't be a problem for people

  • The word negro in meaning black, and not an black slave, so the slavery is irrelevant to it.

Not only did the word negro mean black but it was associated with the slavery blacks endured. They took offense to it and it was no longer looked at as acceptable.

    • Associated because of what happened to blacks and not because the word itself.

    • That word isn't my dispute. It just happens to be in one of the photos I used. It still does not change the fact that it is offensive.

  • This is probably the first MyTake of yours that I truly agree with. I do not believe that anyone should use the N-word or any racial terms for that matter since it just keeps the legacy alive. Regardless of what color you are it is still wrong because it is still an inherently evil word. Wrong is wrong even if everyone is doing it and right is right even if nobody is doing it. When Black people use the N-word it is a slap in the face to their ancestors and contrary to "reclaiming" terms, they are just keeping the scars of racism alive. When White people use it it just sounds stupid, though very few of them actually use it for racial purposes. And don't even get me started on the racist terms that both Blacks and Whites have no problem utilizing against us Mexican Americans.

  • Someone is bound to post 'reclaiming slurs'. I usually agree with you, heck I agree with you on this too. But people never forget. It has become a part of their culture, life and blood. Just telling them why won't do anything. For centuries, they were oppressed and slighted. History written in blood never washes away. With such deep roots. Just 'why' isn't enough. We need a 'how' as well.

    • I understand people will always use it. But should they really get angry when other races use it as well? I've had this discussion with so many of my friends who use the word. They get so angry when Whites use it, but then when I explain and break things down to them, they are completely silent. They know what I'm saying is true, but at the same time like you said they believe in "reclaiming their slurs".

    • And What do you mean by we need a "how?"

    • Its like a washed up method of payback. To never let the white folks forget what they did to the blacks. But you can only reason with people willing to change. Others will take this as an offense. You'll get hate. But I'm glad you wrote this. People know the problem, what they don't know is the solution.

  • It's all about perception and emotions. Words invoke emotions. Not only that but what's the saying: Everything is offensive to someone. So no matter what the term is there will be someone who finds it offensive. Should we then not use any words at all? I could say calling me a guy sometimes instead of calling me a man all the time is offensive to me. I have every right for that to be offensive to me no matter how ridiculous you think that is.

Now of course that's not actually offensive to me, but that's an example. The reason why people don't want people using the "n word" is because of its history and so many people finding it offensive.

    In other words:

    www.quickmeme.com/.../...336aef2944bf2baa6b879.jpg

That's all it is. Enough people gripe about something and then people want to take the word away from daily use.

I believe blacks would still have existed. It's just that just like today we are mixed. Interbred. Just like many Native Americans are. Sure there aren't many 100% Native Americans, but despite the white settlers giving so many smallpox and killing many they also interbred with many. So maybe I'm looking at it wrong there since the Native American ethnic group itself is virtually gone but what also became of it was intermixing. I just believe that the black race would still be somewhat of a product of intermixing like it is already.

Not to belittle the brave civil rights activists who stood for the black race. Their accomplishments and bravery can't be undermined.

You talk about the word bitch. That's a separate matter, but out of my 20 something years of living I've come to understand the purpose of such term. I've come to understand that that word is used for multiple reasons. One of these is to insult. Another is for distinction. I'm not saying my way of thinking here is right, but it's my opinion is it not?

So that brings me to this. When using the term nigga there's different uses of the word. Does it make it good or bad? Again it's all perception. I personally don't use the term a lot, but I also believe there's a such thing as black ignorance. So often times when I see that I do use some term. Sometimes negro. Sometimes colored. It all depends.

    • Again not saying I'm a moral person or right or wrong. I'm not saying you're wrong. I'm saying everybody has their own opinion and view on words and they should interpret them how they want to.

Why? Because they'll do it anyway.

    • I don't think you understand the true depths of the word "nigger" to compare it to such a light example as the word "guy" and every other word along with human vocabulary.

I am going to link you to its history so you can see its the most offensive word ever used in language, period.

      aaregistry.org/.../nigger-word-brief-history

That link is only lightly touching on it.

    • The word "bitch" which was used, was only to offer an analogy so people can understand the concept. My main purpose of this article is tell let those that USE the "N" word in their daily vocabulary, to let them know, they are giving others permission to do the same. I have 2 black friends that use the word nigga a lot, they almost beat up a white man that they heard using it in a friendly context. I am just trying to BRING something to light. When you use it, you're creating openings for others to use it as well.

  • @mistnigqa808 come over and show some love my nigga by the way he is the only guy I use this with and it's very rarely lol.

But serisouly enough kidding around people will stop saying it when black people stop saying it, I mean it's them who turned it from a bad word into what it is today, I must get called a nigga several times every few weeks in a friendly way, by blacks who come in and play basketball.

    • I fucks with this nigga/troll him on here daily LOL

    • @Mistnigqa808 Lol yup tis true. See he doesn't care he even calls me it lol.

  • But if no one uses "n*gga", how will rappers be able to describe their friends and foes? Since all of them are collectively called "n*ggas".

    • That "problem" could easily be solved there's so much other words to use like "homies", "boys" etc

    • But "dawg", you don't understand. A true "G" needs to look baller when he spits the "fire". Homies and boys are that "childsplay" shit.

  • But nigga..

  • 38 million people were killed in world war 1
60 million people were killed in world war 2
Many Jews were slaughtered in the process.
In the Iraq war more than 500,000 people died.

My solution :: Let's get rid of the word "war" for once and for all as it reminds us of the past.

  • People that aren't black will never admit that they say it because they want to and not because of rap and also

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xMX4R9Wz8ns
  • When I was a kid it was one of a handful of words that got our mouth washed out with soap.

  • Agreed

  • agreed.

  • My thoughts exactly! I still facepalm when I think of the women who thought it was cool to call their friends "sluts" to their faces in public. 😒

  • I wish people would stop using the n word. So many younger people hear the word all the time in rap music and stuff that they become numb to the word and it's just a normal word to them. It's unfortunate.

  • Freedom of speech is number one but I find it to be an ugly word and I do not associate with any white people that use any variation of it and I always show me disdain for the word when my black friends use it. Yeah I'm a pain in the ass.
