Nude Photos Are Bad, And Why Geo-Tagging is Even Worse

I'm going to show you a HOT NUDE photograph!!

Nude Photos Are BAD!!

Despite what you think, this is NOT a picture of a cup of black coffee. It's a picture of a hot naked young lady!! Do you think it's safe to send some guy? Even a boyfriend or husband? Here's the truth...

Let's examine it with a free app called Photo Exif Editor. First, though, a little lesson about what may be in that picture. If it's a file that is called, for example, xyz.jpg ( or .jpeg ), it may include much information about when and where the picture was taken, the device it was taken with, and various technical info about the photo itself.

WHERE it was taken?? Yes, where!! It can even include the actual address!!

Scary? Yup! So let's look. This is a screen shot of the first part of the Exif data. You will see that under Geo-location, it not only gives latitude and longitude, but the actual address of the cafe it was taken in.

This could be your HOME!!

In case you can't see it, here's a blown up version

Nude Photos Are Bad, And Why Geo-Tagging is Even Worse

Anyone can find this using a map. It can be viewed as an aerial photo or in Instant Street View. Using this info, it may well be possible to find out your name using public records!

So what happens when you send it. Some apps and social media strip this info, which makes it safer. Some don't. So don't take the risk by relying on a website to strip it for you. This Exif Editor lets you do it for yourself. You're still relying on software, though. Something might go wrong!!

Better still is to make sure your camera, phone or whatever device is used, has any geo-tagging and geo- location functions TURNED OFF.

Even better, just DON'T send any at all! Remember, YOU have no control over what happens to them after you've sent them! You're relying on someone else's integrity not to share them, post them on the internet, make them go right round the world.

  • I only geo-tag in two situations:

    1) when I am in a very crowded/busy area where I would be difficult to find (amusement park, fair, casino, mall, etc)

    2) If I am about to leave the location I am at. Exs. I had an interview at Disneyland, I tweeted about it afterwards with a geotag, and drove home; I went to a restaurant, ate, paid the bill, tweeted about the restaurant and the food with a geotag, and left.

Geotags are fun to do as long as they are done safely.

  • Geo-tagging is indeed giving the creeps some reminder like, "Yes, I am here and I'm not afraid to inform you so ;) " sort of connotation. Even worse, someone can save it without your knowledge and use it for bad purposes.

I'll heed your advice. I will not send them.

  • This is one of the many reasons why people should not take nudes Thank you for writing this, good point.
The amount of people on here who have regretted sending nudes is ever increasing, which is a real shame as I hate for them go through the pain it causes

    • Thanks for your vote of confidence. It was prompted by a young lady on here that had sent nudes, which had come to the notice of her school staff. (IIRC) She was under age. I do not know the outcome.
