I'm going to show you a HOT NUDE photograph!!
Despite what you think, this is NOT a picture of a cup of black coffee. It's a picture of a hot naked young lady!! Do you think it's safe to send some guy? Even a boyfriend or husband? Here's the truth...
Let's examine it with a free app called Photo Exif Editor. First, though, a little lesson about what may be in that picture. If it's a file that is called, for example, xyz.jpg ( or .jpeg ), it may include much information about when and where the picture was taken, the device it was taken with, and various technical info about the photo itself.
WHERE it was taken?? Yes, where!! It can even include the actual address!!
Scary? Yup! So let's look. This is a screen shot of the first part of the Exif data. You will see that under Geo-location, it not only gives latitude and longitude, but the actual address of the cafe it was taken in.
This could be your HOME!!
In case you can't see it, here's a blown up version
Anyone can find this using a map. It can be viewed as an aerial photo or in Instant Street View. Using this info, it may well be possible to find out your name using public records!
So what happens when you send it. Some apps and social media strip this info, which makes it safer. Some don't. So don't take the risk by relying on a website to strip it for you. This Exif Editor lets you do it for yourself. You're still relying on software, though. Something might go wrong!!
Better still is to make sure your camera, phone or whatever device is used, has any geo-tagging and geo- location functions TURNED OFF.
Even better, just DON'T send any at all! Remember, YOU have no control over what happens to them after you've sent them! You're relying on someone else's integrity not to share them, post them on the internet, make them go right round the world.
To Be Continued...
