In my time on GirlsAskGuys, I have seen many questions and opinions pertaining to the act of having sex while a woman is menstruating. We all fondly (or not so fondly?) refer to it as period sex, and there is always a divide on those that are interested in it and those that go, "Ohhhh, HELL NO. That is icky!" I have been on both sides of this issue, so I wanted to write a myTake for you lovely folks on the pros and cons of period sex and some tips to help you prepare for it if you do wish to partake in it.
First off, I do not believe I need to explain any further what period sex is. You all are smart enough to get the basics... I hope. If not, Google is your friend. Secondly, what is written here is not all-inclusive and is by no means the end-all, be-all when it comes to this subject. It is simply a guide to assist you. You may get a few surprises if you do end up doing the do in the Red Sea. Enter at your own peril... ;P
Let's get to it!
Pros:
- It is perfectly safe and natural to have sex while a woman is menstruating. It still brings partners closer together and lets them have their intimacy with less limitations.
- Many women still say making love during that time of the month can help reduce menstrual cramps and end periods sooner. Face it, ladies, who doesn't want that? Men, trust me, you want that, too. That means less of your boothang whining about wanting chocolate and to murder every living thing.
- "Menstruation could actually be a turn-on of sorts. That’s because your estrogen and testosterone are low on day 1, but they start to rise by day 3. 'Some women report they feel more aroused and more sensitive around this time,' according to Tara Ford, a physician assistant at the Medical Center for Female Sexuality in Purchase, New York." Guess what, gentlemen? That could mean your woman is all over you, just begging for you to join her in the shower.
- The flow from your period can be used as lubrication and help speed up the arousal process since it may be harder to do foreplay your typical way during this time.
Cons:
- Yes, you may still get blood on your skin. It may look gross. It may smell gross. You have been warned, but you will live.
- The thing about reducing menstrual cramps? Okay, it may not work for every woman. Just had to throw that in here, though I am sure you realize that.
- Some people assume that they do not need wear a condom if they have sex while the woman is menstruating because she will not get pregnant. FALSE. Don't be silly, wrap your willy. You can still make a baby during this time.
- You can still get STDs (sexually transmitted diseases) at any time on a woman's cycle as well. Again, the condom will help reduce these risks.
Tips:
While you may have heard of some or all of these before, they are always worth repeating.
- Use a dark towel or blanket, preferably an old one that you can use just for this occasion. That way, if any blood should get onto it, it is harder to see and not on your good sheets.
- Try to stick to positions that will decrease the amount of blood that flows out. This means you should focus on woman on bottom positions or both of you on your sides.
- Going at it in the shower while she is on her period is an excellent way to reduce mess and to make both of you feel cleaner while doing so. It washes away any blood as it slips out, and there is no worry about wiping it away later or needing to put a ton of Resolve® stain remover on your comforter.
- Keeping an extra old towel nearby may help for clean-up as well.
- Have the guy wear a condom. That way, less mess gets on him and it allows for easy clean-up once you both are finished.
- Ladies, please make sure your dude is on-board with fucking during this time of the month. Do not surprise him in the moment. Tell him beforehand and determine if you both want to continue.
I know it seems gross, especially to the girls, but I can tell you from experience that it is not as bad it seems. I used to be 100% against it, but have changed my ways. As long as you are not too much in pain or bleeding heavily, maybe give it a go one day. If you do not like it, you do not have to do it again. If you do like it, you have just discovered a full week of more sexy time fun with your man. Just my two cents, but there you have it, ladies and gentlemen - a short, maybe not-so-sweet myTake on what you may be getting into and need to know when having period sex.
