If you're about to have sex for the first time, you should make sure that you've done or know these things first:
1. If you're on the pill, make sure you've been taking it at least a week.
Otherwise it won't be as effective as it should be! You should ask your doctor for more information, since this is just a basic tip. Another tip would be that if you miss a pill, don't just assume everything is fine! They say you can take a double dose the next day, if you've only missed 1 day, but call your doctor and tell them everything to see what you should do.
2. Make you use the right size condom.
Don't just assume anything! Make sure you test things out and make sure the condom fits well. If you're unsure about anything, then you can even look up vids on YouTube on how to use condoms, but don't use them if you aren't comfortable with them.
3. Do foreplay and get used to penetration
You don't have to jump into sex. If you let him finger you first, and get used to that, then sex should feel fine or at least better than it would have been if you hadn't tried anything. I actually did feel some pain the first time I tried penetration. It wasn't severe, but I feel like if I had gotten more used to penetration with foreplay, it wouldn't have hurt at all.
