Bachelor's guide to fun in Vegas

I've only been to Vegas once for a week but I will tell you what I learned in that time. This guide is suited mostly for adult men.

Hotels:
Stay at one of the good ones in the main area like Bellagio, Encore/Wynn, Caesars palace, treasure island etc, they're more expensive but worth it for the location.

Food:
They have all the basic fast food places but Vegas is best known for its elaborate buffets, stick to ones in expensive areas/malls to ensure good food and avoid getting ripped off. some casinos have free or cheap alcohol ($1 a beer)

Transportation:
Easy to walk everywhere on the strip, daytime is safe, taxi's are available everywhere next to the busy clubs/casino hotels 24/7 but are nowhere to be found in the less busy areas of the strip. Buses are readily available and cheap on the strip but you might end up waiting $20 for one (NOT good at 3 am by yourself and surrounded by shady drug dealers). I also heard you can rent Ferrari's and other sport cars.

Dress code:
Wear something stylish and fairly flashy at all times if you want to get noticed. I initially wore plain/boring clothes and barely got the time of day. Then I bought an outfit at Versace (the malls are insane there) and the girls were checking me out left and right, some even stopped me on the street to flirt with me.

Safety:
Do not trust anyone on the street (the people that try to sell club passes or give out fliers or pick you up in a limo to drive you to a mafia run strip club) or any of the taxi drivers. The taxi drivers will try to convince you to go to some crappy ripoff place and they get a kickback for bringing you there, they are all corrupt! Do NOT walk the strip alone at night, I got hassled a bunch by drug dealers. I saw maybe one police car the entire time I was there, don't expect much help from anyone, it's a very shady town, stay indoors whenever possible and don't wander off the strip more than a few blocks.

Clubs:
It doesn't seem to matter what day you go, the clubs are always packed every day of the week, most open at 10 pm and close at 4 am. Drink prices are all average (3-10 bucks each drink), don't expect free tap water everywhere. The VIP tables are ridiculously expensive ($500 for table, $1000 for a 1 litre bottle of belvedere, 1 bottle minimum required) Bouncers are everywhere so don't start any fights, they tend to leave you alone as long as you aren't pissing others off though. Most clubs require semi-formal attire such as collared shirt. Arrive early or expect to pay off a bouncer to let you cut the line if you don't want to wait over an hour in line, expect to pay said bouncer $100, which you can split with your group. You may be able to skip the line if you bring girls with you though, don't expect special treatment if your group is a bunch of guys.

1. LAX at Luxor is okish, the crowd always sucked though, medium sized dance floor, no place to sit because everything is vip and pushy bouncers, I didn't like it too much, cover is cheap or free (they give out free passes at Luxor entrance).

2. Surrender: Very loud, decent dance floor, 2 bars, pretty good crowd, fairly sexual atmosphere, I think cover is normally $40 or so

3. XS at Encore: Awesome club, they have very large dance floor surrounded by tables/couches everywhere and you're actually able to hear people because it isn't too loud. Good crowd, girls were upscale and very friendly. XS is the only place that offered free tap water

4. Surrender at Encore: Craziest club I've ever been two, it's half outdoors with a giant pool, surrounded by beds (non vip, anyone can sit on them), mostly a social club, fairly sexual, small dance floor, several bars, relaxed atmosphere.

5. Strip clubs: stay away from the '2 drink minimum' mafia run ones unless you like paying $20 for a beer plus $20 cover. Lots of beautiful Latino girls though, unfortunately none of them spoke English, this made me very suspicious.

The women:
The women are typically all pretty friendly and seem to come to Vegas for 'fun', typically one night stands, don't be surprised if they are trying to cheat on their boyfriends/husbands. Dress flashy to get noticed and be direct on them and don't be afraid to physically escalate quickly, this is no time to talk about the weather, casino lobbies are good for pickup. Be weary of the casino "ladies of the night that promise fun for a fee", I got hassled many times by them and just told them I'm not interested, they like to hang around the high stakes tables or slot machines, I heard that many of them will spike your drink and jack your stuff. Again don't trust ANYTHING the taxi drivers say and promises about particular types of 'business locations that promise fun for a fee', they are all corrupt and run by the mafia.

  • There are hotels that are a lot less expensive in the same area as the ones you mention; you get the same location for a lot less. Unless you plan on spending a lot of time in your room (if so why not stay home) or are with a woman you are trying to impress, not worth the extra $ - the nice places can get bedbugs too.

Also, I've been there dozen times or more, and never found it all that threatening; and I'm someone who tends to drink a lot and wander side streets at 2 AM.

Of all places in the world, Las Vegas is among those I wouldn't spend time and money on, married or bachelor. NYC, New Orleans, San Francisco, Chicago, Miami, Washington DC, Mexico DF, Paris, Rome London, Berlin, Vienna, Cairo, Istanbul... Bejing, my list is endless, and Las Vegas is NOT on it but I know it only by books I read and movies I went to.

  • I've been in many really weird places in the 3d. World (weirder than you'd want to know) but I'll avoid Las Vegas.

  • This is accurate.

  • nice I can't wait for new yrs!

  • will you marry me
