Is Masturbation Really A Sin Before God? Read On And Find Out!

Introduction:

I'm sick and tired of hearing that masturbation is a sin! No where in God's word (Bible) it ever instructs that God commanded that man or woman shoudn't masturbate. God lays out a series of moral codes that He declares sin such as adultery, envy, theft, drunkness, fornications like (homosexuality, rape, beastility, pedophile, incest, prostitution and sexual conduct outside of marriage) haterd, bitterness, unforgivness, arrogance, foul language, slander, reviling others, deceit, kidnapping, greed, dishonoring parents, murder, sorcery, fighting, cowardness and rudeness, but never mentions masturbation.

The whole idea that masturbation is a sin, it's man's idea not God's. Everything I'm about to discuss, I'm going to back it up with God's word since I believe God's word is the final authority, not man!

God's Word Is What Matters, Not Your Opinion!

Is Masturbation Really A Sin Before God? Read On And Find Out!

A pair of misinterpretation of scriptures that I'm about to share would shed light on why many Christians think masturbation is lust and sinful when the context clearly has nothing to do with masturbation at all per se.

A dude named Er who God killed because He was evil left his wife childless and Er's Father told his other son Onan to marry her and get her preagant. However, Onan refused and rather used the pull out method and ejaculated on the ground during sex lest He get Tamar preagant. Onan sin was of disobedience to a ancient custom of giving a brother who died childless a heir, not for masturbation as many wrongly interpret scripture.

Genesis 38:6-10:

Then Judah took a wife for Er his firstborn, and her name was Tamar. But Er, Judah’s firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the Lord, and the Lord killed him. And Judah said to Onan, “Go in to your brother’s wife and marry her, and raise up an heir to your brother.” But Onan knew that the heir would not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in to his brother’s wife, that he emitted on the ground, lest he should give an heir to his brother. And the thing which he did displeased the Lord; therefore He killed him also.

Another misinterpret scripture is what Jesus said about adultery, not masturbation.

Matthew 5:27-28:

“You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

Ladies and gentlemen for adultery to take place at least one party has to be married. Two single people can't commit adultery. What the Lord Jesus is teaching is that if a married man or woman is lusting (desiring) after another person that isn't their spouse they have committed adultery in their heart just for desiring someone else.

No longer the physical act of sleeping with another person is adultery per se. But to just be looking and be having the desire to be with them is adultery within your heart, because it shows your intent.

And also if you are desiring the wife of another man or the husband of another woman that is adultery even though you didn't physically sleep with them. One of the moral commandments is to not covet the wife of your neighbor.

So this isn't about masturbation per se what Christ is teaching. Granted masturbating and thinking about another person spouse is sin.

However, It's perfectly fine for two single people to desire one another. Its natural for a man to desire a woman and a woman to desire a man. That is not a sin.

It's Up To Your Own Conscience.

Like I said at the beginning God points out clear sins for us not do, but on grey issues where He is silent on a particular matter, God leaves it to our own individual conscience to wheather decide if a matter is right or wrong. I'm going to use the principle of Romans Chapter 14 to make a point.

In that Chapter the Holy Spirit speaking apostle Paul on issues regarding Jewish Christians and Gentile Roman Christians who were debating about foods to eat and not eat and Sabbath day or what day to esteem more important etc.

The apostle writes to them telling them that one must be fully convinced in his own mind to what they are doing is right to them.

He goes on to say in Romans 14:22-23:

Romans 14:22-23:

Do you have faith? Have it to yourself before God. Happy is he who does not condemn himself in what he approves. But he who doubts is condemned if he eats, because he does not eat from faith; for whatever is not from faith is sin.

In other words He is saying you must have a clear and good conscience regarding something you are doing. To doubt what you are doing something is right or wrong for you personally, wheather its eating certain foods or whatever is violating your moral law conscience, therefore is sin before God. God wants us to have a clear and good conscience before him and not be feeling guilty, like it says in 1 Peter chap.3

James 4:17:

Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.

Conclusion:

Is Masturbation Really A Sin Before God? Read On And Find Out!

God made us as sexual beings and to have desire for sexual pleasure and orgasm. That was God's idea and a gift for us to enjoy.

However, if masturbation is consuming your life all day and night then that's a problem; And you need to check that out because it isn't healthy. However, when you are feeling sexual and need a sexual release, masturbation can work fine to avoid sleeping around to those who are single and not married yet.😎

1 Corinthians 6:12:

All things are lawful for me, but all things are not helpful. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.

  • I would consider its biggest risk to be the temptation toward porn that it presents. Any who would embark, should be aware of that risk. It only takes a little porn exposure to dramatically alter one's sensations, priorities, and all-around psychological makeup. And many who've seen it, have a near-impossible time breaking themselves of it.

Another risk of masturbation is over-doing it, which can lead to numbness. If stress and other factors are also making someone numb, then overmasturbation can make it worse.

It's a little like having some wine to ease one's self at day's end: make sure you don't over-do it.

  • You need to be careful with what you're preaching, because people like you are causing confusion, and that is not of God. Masturbation is self-stimulation, it is part of sexual fornication which is simply a sin. You cannot write an essay about free will and sexual sin, then justify it by saying it's okay as long as you don't do it all the time. You are confusing people and yourself. Please just do us all a favor and stop with these posts now.

God does not intend for us to engage in sexual acts, unless its with marital partners period.

    • Your reading comprehension skills must not be good. #1 "Masturbation is self-stimulation, it is part of sexual fornication which is simply a sin." That's your opinion. You have absolutely nothing in God's word to back up what you saying. #2 "You are confusing people and yourself" I'm not confusing myself. I'm convinced in My own mind that masturbation is not a sin. If you feel it's a sin for you then fine, don't masturbate. Obey your conscience. And I'm not confusing anyone. Everything I said I backed it up with scriptures.😊

    • @Anonymous Agreed. :)

    • Are you really trying to justify your false preaching? Why do you talk like you know God's mind? Colissians 3:5. Just because the Bible doesn't say in bold 'Do not masturbate!' does not mean that, that verses such as that for example don't tell you that you should kill sexual immorality. Secondly, if you feel that way why not say it? Why do you keep writing long essays based on topics, then adding your opinion and confusing people into thinking its ok? If its your opinion that its not wrong, THAT is YOUR opinion. Do not bring the word of God into your bs. You are deceiving people. The fact you've tried and are still trying to justify your point with 'bible scriptures' is ridiculous. What kind of church do you go to? Stop preaching this nonsense and leave your opinion at that.

  • In your own words; "God lays out a series of moral codes that He declares sin such as…”, "sexual conduct outside of marriage”.
    Sexual conduct = sexual behaviour.
Masturbating is a sexual behaviour is it not? Since you are not having sex with a woman you are trying to replicate it on your own behalf because you cannot practice self-control. You are encouraging sexual arousal/pleasure by your own hand (often this is done with viewing pornography, lusting). You’re making yourself feel things that are premature, before their own timing because you are not patient or trusting God’s timing.
Why should that not be included in sexual conduct outside of marriage?

Lust: A very strong sexual desire
Masturbation: Stimulating one’s own genitals for sexual pleasure.

Let’s hear that again, "Stimulating one’s own genitals FOR SEXUAL PLEASURE.”
Just because the Bible does not directly mention masturbation, why should that exclude it from sexual immorality? It is sexual, it’s purpose is to gratify/satisfy your sexual desires.
It is a SEXUAL act, and seeing as sex is meant to be in the confines of marriage; so should other sexual acts, don’t you think?
Why would some sexual acts be permissible and others not? If you think masturbation is okay, should oral sex be okay too then? If you allow for one, then others that are not explicitly mentioned should be free game too then, should they not? But no, we can't just go off of what is and isn't necessarily said, but instead look to the truth of God's intentions of what sex is and when it should be acted on. Mental purity is important too

As Christians we do not have to give into sexual temptations, God can deliver us from them. Without God on our side though, I can see why people would resort to it. But God has the power to deliver us from temptation, and to deny this is denying His power. ----

    • Could your defensiveness over the matter of masturbation be because you are afraid of having to give it up? Should a lack of self-control (which is a Fruit of the Spirit) be encouraged or praised? Are you being controlled by your “need” to satisfy yourself sexually? If so, are you not making masturbation an idol for yourself? What do you think would bring more glory to God; that you waited in all ways sexually for your future wife by the grace of God (something that many non believers do not do)? Or that you couldn’t wait to feel those things, that you could not resist temptation and instead chose to sexually satisfy yourself until then (something non believers do)? The world has sex so casually, and they see no need in waiting or saving themselves. Becoming a part of any of that does not truly separate us from them. Masturbating is a way the secular world gives themselves sexual pleasure for the sake of feeling that way. But God’s intentions were for sexual things to be in a marriage.

    • -- If we cannot resist our fleshly desires (because we are leaving God out of it), what kind of message does that tell the world? That even we cannot abstain from sexual things with God on our side, so why should they. "God made us as sexual beings and to have desire for sexual pleasure and orgasm. That was God's idea and a gift for us to enjoy.” You would be right, but this is supposed to take place in the confines of marriage. No where does it say that for those who have trouble waiting and exercising self-control that they should satisfy their desires personally until they find a spouse. Instead it says; 1 Corinthians 7:8-9 8 To the unmarried and the widows I say that it is good for them to remain single, as I am. 9 But if they cannot exercise self-control, they should marry. For it is better to marry than to burn with passion. --

    • It does not say we should burn in passion, and lust after others and gratify ourselves sexually until that time. It says it is better to marry than to burn with that passion. And if you are single, then those thoughts should not be dwelling in our minds. We should not allow ourselves to lust after others (because it is sinful), and should instead work at cleaning our minds with the help of God and filling our minds with Him instead. If we are not to burn in lust/passion, to not burn in our sexual desires, then why would Paul say this? Are you burning in passion for women? Are you feeding those sexual thoughts you have of them, and encouraging them? ---

  • Interesting take, but what are your thoughts on pornography?

    • I don't watch it nor advice anyone to watch it.

  • Amen man thanks for sharing that my take. It only really becomes a sin if your lusting after some one or something.

    • Indeed. A man can't be lusting after Beyonce or a sexy married celebrity.

  • To save everyone trouble, God most likely does not exist, and most certainly the biblical God.

  • I didn't read and I can answer this with positivity:

    NO it is not!!!

  • The first thing groups, governments, religions, cults do to control their populace is control their sex lives. Once you control that, you have them in the palm of your hand. Every single tyrannical religion or government that has ever existed has done just that.

  • I'll never stop flicking my bean.

  • Actually, yes, it is. Here's why...

“For me the real evil of masturbation would be that it takes an appetite which, in lawful use, leads the individual out of himself to complete (and correct) his own personality in that of another (and finally in children and even grandchildren) and turns it back; sends the man back into the prison of himself, there to keep a harem of imaginary brides.

"And this harem, once admitted, works against his ever getting out and really uniting with a real woman.

"For the harem is always accessible, always subservient, calls for no sacrifices or adjustments, and can be endowed with erotic and psychological attractions which no woman can rival.

"Among those shadowy brides he is always adored, always the perfect lover; no demand is made on his unselfishness, no mortification ever imposed on his vanity.

"In the end, they become merely the medium through which he increasingly adores himself. . . . After all, almost the main work of life is to come out of our selves, out of the little dark prison we are all born in. Masturbation is to be avoided as all things are to be avoided which retard this process. The danger is that of coming to love the prison.”

    - CS Lewis

"But that's not in the Bible!" Then what do you make of Matthew 18:17, where Our Lord appeals to the authority of the Church (which He had not yet established)? Where does He mention scripture, the Bible, anything like that? And to come back to your references to Paul's letter to the Romans, ask yourself this. Is Paul greater than Jesus Christ?

And once you read the Lewis quote above, it adds context to Matthew 5:27-28.

Also, you need to be REALLY careful with that whole "let you conscience be your guide" thing. Or else, you get guys like this... https://www. dailywire. com/news/15352/lefts-new-hero-christian-doctor-killing-innocent-amanda-prestigiacomo

You also get Christians who think that pornography, gay marriage, sex outside of marriage, skipping church, and yes, since we've already mentioned it, abortion are all okay. Or any of the other sins you mentioned at the beginning of this piece. You get young unmarried Christian couples who think oral and anal sex are okay.

And to close, since you mention it, I will point out one other MAJOR thing that is nowhere in the Bible. Do you know what that is? "Sola scriptura", "Scripture alone" as the sole rule of faith.

You are looking for loopholes and justifications for that for which there are none.

    • Smh lol. Typical religious legalistic Pharisee teaching doctrines of men as God's commandments. "ask yourself this. Is Paul greater than Jesus Christ?" You do realize all the apostles are speaking through the Holy Spirit as God's word clearly declares as its inspired? Please don't waste your time writing back. I'm not interested anymore in a dabate.

    • Mathhew 15:7-9: Jesus taking: Hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy about you, saying: ‘These people draw near to Me with their mouth, And honor Me with their lips, But their heart is far from Me. And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’ ”

  • My opinion matters more than some useless nonexistent deity's so-called word (which is ultimately the words of a bunch of delusional Bronze Age goat herders). And in my opinion nothing is a sin, do what you like.

  • What do you do with the verse "do not cast thy seed upon the ground)?" But actually, masturbation in itself is not the sin, it is denying your spouse intercourse and then masterbating.

    • "Do not cast thy seed upon the ground?" Where does it says not to do such a thing?

  • It's worse for guys

  • Why are there [Name] number:number on God's speech? Shouldn't it be like [God says:]

Oh wait, it's not what God said but rather some dudes doing a retranslation and calling it The originals. What if he add in something he likes? None of us would be able to know right?

    *Dials GOD fast line*

Me: Hey, my man! Did you say any of these stuff?

God: No!!! I was AFK for a moment and the cat step on the keyboard.

Me: You mean a cat made up the whole thing?

God: Of course not! It came out gibberish and these morons invented the whole thing!

    • You sound stupid.

    • Yes yes and you sound smart.

  • I agree, I think it is only a sin of it becomes a addiction and or if it conflicts with a person's life such as arriving late to work because they decided to masturbate.

    • Lol.. you love work huh?😂😂

    • I like certain jobs😆.

  • Well, it's really pretty simple.. The Bible may not state masturbation as a sin.. And that in itself may not be a sin.. But, it is a form of like other users said.. Self gratification.. Sex is a desire which most humans have.. But it's not a need.. Scripture admonishes us to starve the flesh. (Colossians 3:5, Romans 8:13, Ephesians 4:22). If we masturbate, we obviously are will fantasize.. Which is a form of lust.. Also, that passage in Matthew 5:18 doesn't seem to be specific to Married people only.. But People period.. Also self-gratification is inconsistent with the purpose, goal and basic nature of sex. I think you may need to ask the Holy Spirit if Masturbation is coo or not..

    • A orgasm and sex may not be a need for you but it's for others. And as far my flesh is concerned I do starve My flesh. The works of the flesh it talks about in Galatians chap 5. I don't sleep around which I want to. I don't watch porn which I want to. Can I at least experience a orgasm while I'm not married yet? Do you think Joesph at 17 to age 30 when he got out of prison didn't masturbate while in Egypt? The Bible says God was with Joseph while he was locked up.

    • It's not a need for anybody.. Just a desire.. A very strong desire.. We can live life without sex.. But it's a God given desire.. And well, you still participating in self gratification.. Like I said.. It may not be a sin, and maybe in marriage if the husband or wife was away for a while they can think about each other.. But, you still involving the fantasy of somebody when masturbating.. You shouldn't be encouraging self gratification with having fantasies though.. You definitely weren't lead by the Holy Spirit on this one.. LOL.. And yeah maybe Joseph may have indulged in some stuff.. Or maybe he didn't I ain't gon assume he did, and use that as justification.. LOL.. God was with David, and he committed Adultery, and murder..

    • But David was a one time thing. I don't think Joesph masturbated just a couple of times during a 13 year period being locked up. And like I said if a person feels it's a sin to them then it's a sin because they are violating their own conscience. Whatever is not from faith is sin. And what is wrong with self gratification? We satisfy ourselves daily with activities that gives us joy and fun like reading, basketball etc. Why is sexual pleasure always shun among many Christians even when a person isn't hurting anyone?

    • Show All
  • Nope it's not because there is no such thing as god.

  • God knows human nature better than anyone, since He did make us. Masturbation is just a part of human nature. But it can be condemned if masturbation occurs where it is MORE than just a relief system.

  • It may not be the sin, in and of itself, but it is temptation.

It could so very easily become sinful.

    But let's get real, I mean. . . you know. . . I mean c'mon. . . you know?

    I mean, I'm just saying!

  • I read this 5 mins after I finished... damn... oh well

    • What, it's not as much fun if it's not a sin? Or were you doing one of the other banned activities? :)

    • @goaded Haha! All the best things in like are taboo~

  • The reasoning why masturbation is looked down upon, is because the addiction-factor and the cultivation of lust that can occur.

Lust can cloud judgment and can lead to bad decisions. Also masturbation can also be seen as a way of self-worship/hedonism.

    • People are silly man. We are a sexual species. Nothing wrong with being sexual alone.

    • As long as it is not done in excess 👍

    • Yeah, I agree. Can't be all day and night self indulging; In that case you will be a slave to masturabtion which isn't healthy.
