Is a consensual incestuous relationship so bad?

I'm not asking for myself, just want to find out if there are more people who, like myself, believe that such relationships shouldn't be shunned. Especially if the people involved do not intend to have children. If it's consensual, then by what reason can anyone justify making it illegal?

  • CONSENSUAL incest is not wrong. There is no rational reason for keeping laws or taboos against consensual incest that is consistently applied to other relationships. Personal disgust or religion is only a reason why one person would not want to personally engage in what I call consanguinamory, not why someone else shouldn't do it. An adult should be free to share love, sex, residence, and marriage with ANY consenting adults.

Some people try to justify their prejudice against consanguineous sex and marriage by being part-time eugenicists and saying that such relationships inevitably lead to “mutant” or “deformed” babies. This argument can be refuted on several fronts. 1. Some consanguineous relationships involve only people of the same gender. 2. Not all mixed-gender relationships birth biological children. 3. Most births to consanguineous parents do not produce children with significant birth defects or other genetic problems; while births to other parents do sometimes have birth defects. 4. We don’t prevent other people from marrying or deny them their reproductive rights based on increased odds
of passing along a genetic problem.

  • That's kinda what I've thought.

In fact, we are one of the few creatures that seems to be so freaked out by the idea, and mostly in western culture.

For instance, in Bonobos ("Pygmy Chimps"), the only kind of sex they DON'T have is Mother-Son. Literally every other combination is not only practiced, but common. Because in many highly social, highly intelligent creatures, sex is used primarily to establish complex social bonds. In these creatures, the vast minority of sex results in offspring; It simply isn't its primary purpose.

I think it was made into something sick because of the genetic disorders that occur in the children. Can't have or don't want children? Then there really shouldn't be any problem with it. As long as they are old enough to consent, able to consent, and in fact GIVE CONSENT, and don't plan on having any biological children by the two of them, I really don't see the issue.

In fact, things like this were fairly normal in the past.

  • I mean...

With certain incestuous relations there is a question to wether or not its possible for consent to happen w/r/t power dynamics (like, father-daughter, right?) but like... As far as I know the stuff against incest has to do with property and this is an old style protecting Capital becoming moral right. More than that, 99.99999% of anti-incest rhetoric is just 'they might have disabled children, isn't that awful?' and like, I'm absolutely apalled by that and as a disabled kid I can't feel much animosity towards the production of people like me, I don't see people voluntarily maybe making more people like me as a big moral danger that makes them reprehensible or something

The rest of it I kinda feel like... it's not my business, idk. I've known siblings who were together, I've had friends like that. Whats it got to do with me?

  • As long as it's illegal for brothers and sisters under 18 I could live with them making it legal for couples who won't conceive. If you make it legal for kids under that age it'd lead into dangerous territory for sexual abuse and rape claimed to be consensual when it's not or one sibling not knowing any different and allowing it to happen even though they don't really want to (like paedophile fathers who do things to children who just accept it because they don't know better and only realise it's wrong when they're school age and no one else's father or mother does it)

  • Brother and sister, weird. Cousin are common. Albert Einstein was the product of cousins and also married a cousin. Once mayor of New York City Rudy Giuliani, first wife where cousin's, Jerry Lee Lewis married his 13 yr old cousin that's kinda gross at least marry closer to your age. Most Royal families. It's really not necessary anymore to marry family. But a lot of places will let families marry each other , so it's still accepted by some... quietly.

  • The nobility of Europe were all in consensual incestuous relationships, and they turned out to be the prettiest, smartest, and most morally sound people of their age.

People like laws that protect them from things they don't like, when they should simply grow up and not participate in things they don't like.

    • the nobility of Europe were not morally sound lololol

    • Are you kidding me? 2 words: Habsburg Jaw. European nobility are anything but pretty, smart and morally sound, lmfao. They have f*cked up genetics for the most part. Fact.

  • What two consenting adults do is their own business.

  • Because of the shame/moral values, because, even if they don't intend to have children, doesn't mean it won't happen.

  • I remember a question like this before, and like, 80 percent of the people who answered it turned out to be fucking their brother/sister. That shit had a lot of answers too, like 60 answers or something.

    • I remember that question. Had me like O_o

    • See, Ted knows.

  • Where would we be if incest more acceptable? This day in age I see no purpose for incest as we are populated enough to challenge ourselves for different types of human bonding. So, I think there may be more cons than pros at this point.

  • Yes !!! because how the fuck would your family feel seriously -_-

  • If you believe that whatever two consenting adults do is fine, then why not? Seriously? Unless you believe marriage should only be between one man and one woman who are not related.

Anyone who supports gay marriage should have no problem saying that incest between consenting adults is fine, and I defy anyone to explain otherwise. xD

    • I don't agree with it but can't do anything about it either.

    • If you think homosexuality is bad, then you have every right to proclaim incest is disgusting. (I'm think both should be banned.) And realistically, if you believe homosexuality/gay marriage should be accepted as normal, I think one has no right to oppose incest.

  • cause its sick you weirdo

    • They say the same about gay marriage, how do you feel about that?

  • Oh God that'stotally disgusting and totally depraved.
Think of the children! Wait...don't, lol. :x

    • These answers are scaring me.

  • Just the potential of birth control failing and creating a kid with a much higher percentage of having genetic abnormalities and birth defects makes it off limits for a reason.

    • If you look at the HIV rates among gays, isn't there just as good a reason to ban homosexuality? xD

    • Homosexuals can be smart enough to use protection and have successful monogamous relationships if they so choose. They also don't have to worry about passing on birth defects.

    • Playing devil's advocate, they're evidently not, or it doesn't work. The HIV rate among homosexuals is sky high compared to men who only have sex with women, and it keeps rising. So shouldn't gay sex be banned for public health, just as we ban incest for public health?

    • Show All
  • Nope

  • I just found out I'm related to my mom. Yeah it's bad. I have all kinds of health problems.

  • All of my extended family members (myself included) are the result of incest (due to an actual marriage between a certain great-grandparent of mine and her cousin) and we all have mental problems. OCD runs rampant with some bipolar, ADD, and other undiagnosed phenomenons mixed in there. We're actually a very stable, close family but it's undeniable that every single one of us has a couple of mental problems (some diagnosed, others undiagnosed).

Considering that I've experienced firsthand how incest can screw up entire and multiple generations of people, I'd rather not support it.

  • It should be legal, but I think it's immoral.

  • im with you, if they are not planning to conceive...the who cares.
i mean if they are both legal age, of sane mind, and its consensual then whose business is it to tell them not to. theyre not hurting any one...

on a side note, i am neither for nor against incest... i just think people should be free to do as they wish as long as its safe, sane and consensual.
