My girlfriend asked me to slap her during sex, but I don't want to?

My girlfriend and I were having sex when all the sudden she says "slap me as hard as you can" she says is so out of breath. literally were in the middle of sex. So I just said "what" and she says "slap me as hard as you can right across my face." I was so confused I just said "babe, I can't" She had then reached up and slapped me across the face as hard as could it was such a shock and it actually stung so bad that I almost lost control of my arms and fell on top of her. But regained control so i didn't haha. It turned me on a lot more than I thought it would. She then again said please hit me. I could't bring myself to hit her II always was taught never to hit a girl and I couldn't bare hurting her so I just kept going. She finally said i again "smack me baby" and slapped me as hard as she could again. I then literally tapped her cheek and went back to it. She just was like please harder. I couldn't do it.
