Girls and Guys--How did you first learn the exact way sexual intercourse occurs?

I bet the answers to this question will vary with the generation of the person responding. But I want to know exactly how you found out how sex works. Not reproduction, but sexual intercourse; the fact that a man puts his penis inside a woman's vagina. I'll start. I had plenty of instruction on "reproduction" in 1st and 2nd grade. I knew that women had "eggs" and men had "sperm" and when the two met, a baby developed inside the woman. But at that age they never told us how the sperm got to the egg. But I was sure curious. Until the fall of 1976, when my parents bought me the new 1977 World Book Encyclopedia for third grade. Sure, I read some of the cool articles like about space travel and the Kennedy assassination. And then at some point, I stumbled on the article on "Reproduction." And there it was, the sentence that rocked my world and the description of the act that has fascinated me ever since. I wish I still had the book, but it read something like: "when a man and a women wish to have a baby, they lie very close together and the man places his penis inside the woman's vagina. This is usually physically and psychologically pleasurable for both people. After sometime, a white milky fluid called semen, which contains millions of spermatozoa (sperm) is released from his penis." etc etc etc I was incredibly amazed, bewildered, turned on, and immediately pictured people doing this in a somewhat clinical, mechanical, way! So how did you learn this ultimate fact of sex? From your parents, siblings, movies, internet, Penthouse magazine, etc? And how did you feel when you first realized what happened during "the act"?

  • Your story is pretty interesting, especially the fact that you were amazed by this astonishing information. My story doesn't go so smoothly. In fact, when I find out what intercourse was I became terrified and sickened by the thought of it even years later.

What happened was that before actually knowing about intercourse, I still thought of it. Like I would always think, "what if a man put his penis into woman's vagina?" And then I would immediately think how atrocious and disgusting that would be and whoever did that would surely go to hell.

Meanwhile, I've always been amazed by babies and wished I could have one even at the age of 8. Whilst never did I know how they came. Well one day, I am 13 years old so that would be probably 2006; I don't remember how it happened I think I asked a question regarding the topic of reproduction and my younger sister says, "oh yeah! Baby's come from a man sticking his penis in a woman's vagina!" WTF? my world was suddenly crushed. I couldn't believe that billions of people all around the world including my own good parents were doing such a morbid, sickening and disturbing thing.

I guess after a few years I've grown out of being too terrified of it. I mean, a few boys start to come into the picture and guess my new found feelings eased this disturbing fact.

  • I was probably 12-13 years old when a friend and I were messing around on a laptop just browsing the internet. We stumbled across p*rn and agreed to watch it if we didn't tell anybody. We watched it, and that was also the first time I had actually been 'turned on' but I was very embarrassed because I thought my friend didn't feel the same way about it. To this day she is probably my best friend, by the way.

  • When I was 8 or 9, I remember we had a rich neighboring family and I hung out at their place with their daughter.
When the parents went out, the daughter pulled out a VHS tape she found in their bedroom and we watched proper hardcore p*rn.

    It was hilarious.

  • Honestly? p*rn, but I didn't learn the true facts and realistic mechanics of it till my sophomore year in college when I had to take a class on human development.

    • Like I thought, it's based on generation. When I was that age, a kid in a small town couldn't get p*rn. They only showed it in creepy theaters in big cities, and even playboy/penthouse was hard to come by.

    • yeah, its every where and unfortunately completely inaccurate.

  • My parents left a book called "Where Did I Come From" under the couch in hopes of me and my sister finding it there. It was a bit of a help but sure made genitals looks scary and ugly. thesoulstepford.com/.../where-did-i-come-from.jpg
I found this is 1977 btw.

    • 1977 must have been the year for books to teach the fact of life, LOL.

    • lol I just noticed this was the African American edition. This is almost the book I had :P

  • I'm 20 and I learned by just having sex XD

    • Wow. So before your and your BF got to to the point of actually having sex, you hadn't read about the act or watched any p*rn online, etc? Or had you basically figured it out based on the anatomy?

    • I watch p*rn I just don't take notes and yea I learned by trial and error

  • When I was in grade 5 or 6 my mom bought me a book about girlology. Great book for learning about puberty and sex and whatnot in a fun relaxed way. But ya the book told me.
