Beastiality/zoophilla , am I wrong for being so upset?

I have a close friend who always tells me about being lonely and always being rejected in relationships and he has anxiety and is on depression meds. We got on the subject of types of P*rnography and he said that if it existed, he watched it, including bestiality. I said I personally don't watch it since I think it's animal abuse. Then he goes on to say he's actually been with a few dogs himself and they liked it and he was trying to justify it. It freaked me out and I ignored the rest of his messages last night, I even vented to my own brother and started to cry. I don't want to be his friend anymore but, am I wrong for not hearing him out?

  • I think he needs help... If you want to be a good friend, you should be there for him and help him get some average friends and some normal social skills.
    Otherwise get far away, cause this situation could get kinda ugly if you make missteps.

    There's a good chance he was being conspicuously weird just to get attention from you. He knows zoophilia is weird (at least to the average person) because it's common sense. Anyone else who liked it would either hide it from you because it's weird or be more sympathetic to your views--only if he was trying really hard to be open with you for some reason. (This is just IMO, but I'm into some pretty weird stuff so...)

    (Just a possibility but) If he's on anxiety and depression meds and claims being lonely, couldn't it make sense his zoophilia may be a result of him feeling lonely and not being able to get someone to consent to a relationship? It takes a bit of conviction to try anything new especially if you know it's considered weird by most people--especially trying it in real life instead of just watching it. Something made him resolve to try it, and it probably wasn't anything good. The guilt that came after doing it resulted in his strong justification of it--just how can you tell if a dog enjoyed it. (o. O)

    I believe both your chat about zoophilia and your friend's enjoyment of it are results of your friend's loneliness. Thus, the question is no longer whether you should hear him out about zoophilia. If he's really a close friend, the question becomes: Will you go out of your way to help him or not?

    I'm sure you were really upset when you heard it. I would be too. However, it is a fetish and if he's a true friend of yours, you may want to hear his opinion on the idea. You don't have to agree with him or conform to his beliefs but a friend is a friend. If he's on depression medication right now is the moment he'll need you more then ever.
    You don't have to agree with him but don't shun him for his actions and sexual desires.
