Why are people losing their virginity so early these days?

The title says it all, so why are people losing their virginity so early these days? They're losing it so early, that now, actually losing it as an adult (20 years old full grown.) like you're supposed to is now considered an old and late age to be losing it. People are losing it at like 10-16 years old. And maybe even a young teenager who's like 13 is becoming a late age to lose it. I think that it's because society makes it seem like you're a loser if you hadn't have had sex yet, and so they try to lose it as early as possible, with a random person away from their parents. People are even starting to lose their virginity as straight up KIDS who are like 9-12. Most kids have already lost their virginity by like 9 these days, I can see people losing their virginity as like 2 year old toddlers in a few years, the ages just keep getting younger. So what do you think?

  • Well to be fair, thousands of years ago it was only natural to have sex at these ages because that's when the body was primed and ready to go for sexual activity. As life expectancy went up we as a society decided it'd be a good idea to force people to hold in their sexual desire just because we live longer and judge those that were only doing what biology told them to do. Not really fair.

I myself am 18, almost 19, waiting until marriage along with my girlfriend. It's just pragmatic to wait, I didn't really want to wait and neither did she. I understand that you think these kids are just disgusting for having intercourse at such a young age- from a subjective stance I agree that it's terrible. But from an objective point of view I think they're perfectly fine, the only problem is that adults have coddled children more and more as the centuries went on.

I began writing a counterargument and a rebuttal to said counterargument but it's late and the time I would need to properly articulate my thoughts is just not there.

BASICALLY what I was going to write is that kids were fine to live as adults until we as a society lowered their status as human beings, passed laws to keep them on a leash, dumbed them down with leisurely activities, showcased this new stupidity as a valid reason to continue keeping them on leashes, and put so many standards on them that it's a disgrace.

So in essence, biologically speaking they're fine but society calls biology disgusting and unnatural which is very sad.

  • Because they apparently don't have the ability to control their sexual urges until they reach a responsible age. Bad parenting also has a lot to do with it. Kids raised with proper values won't be in a hurry to lose their virginity, like it was some kind of a race.

  • I've noticed this trend and it's crazy to me. I agree with what @aficionado says. I'd only add that access to things like p*rn so easily has skewed the consciousness around sexual development a lot. I feel like kids are getting exposed to overt sexuality earlier and earlier.

This TEDTalk speaks about p*rn, young people and modern day sexual ignorance:

So combined with no real sex education in school or at home (there's more to sex than learning body parts), kids are learning sex from the internet and their equally poorly educated friends.

The blind leading the blind. It really is quite sad. I see post on hear and hear from the young people I mentor all the time acting like 18 is SO OLD to be a virgin. I'm like, "you're brain is still developing. Chill." It's really sad

  • I don't know.

I'm 21 and my boyfriend and I (virgins) decided that we would have sex the other day because we thought we were ready and so we decided to do it... and then we (I) chickened out. And so now we're waiting more. Like, another 4 years more. Then maybe we'll be prepared. Or married. Or both.

I hear people say you can't have a fulfilling relationship without sex... but you really can. Especially when you're young. And even if you really can't have a fulfilling relationship without it and I've just been living a lie... no way do 13 year olds need to have that kind of relationship anyway.

  • im 12 and I just lost my virginity. I think the reason why people are losing they're virginity so often is because these days people are hitting puberty earlier feeling more the need to have sex. I don't think you are considered a loser if you haven't had sex because me and the guy I had it with don't want anyone knowing so you would kinda get slut shamed if you did. in my case I did it with someone I've known most my life and is very special to me and I don't regret it, I did it because I felt ready even though no one my age that I know or the year above me has had sex.

  • I guess because, for good or bad, it's more acceptable now to be turned on and do something about it, rather than restraining yourself like you might have had to have done in the past?

  • Average age in my country (the netherlands) is 17,8 years old. Research has also showns that 95% of the girls who had sex never did something they didn't want to do. They also find it easy to refuse sex because Dutch boys let the girls be responsible about how far they can go.

I love my Dutch men :) so well behaved!

  • Because they think it's the cool thing to do. I've never heard of any kids losing their virginity and I hope they aren't. But I know that there are young teenagers who are having sex. I did not get the appeal of sex until I was much older and in university.

  • Because society has gone to the dogs

  • I would believe it's been common like that in the modern birth control era

  • We like sex.

  • Pretty sure you are exaggerating a bit. I would say at my high school once you are a junior it's socially acceptible to loose ur virginity but no one is going to be to hard on u if wait a little longer.

  • Lol. You should take a look at the answers on this question, you might be really surprised! www.girlsaskguys.com/.../q1175680-girls-what-age-do-most-of-your-female-friends-lose-their-virginity

    • I am, lol. It's a very interesting poll, despite not having ages over 19, thanks for taking me there.

  • I don't know where you live but children in my neighborhood are certainly not losing their virginity at 9-12 or even 15. You must live in one fucked up place.

  • well before it was the norm to get pregnant and be married at 16 and even 12 years old
    society now frowns upon that
