Why do I feel awkward sitting on my boyfriend's lap?

Its just that whenever I'm hanging out with him he always tries to get me to sit on his lap and when I do I just feel so awkward and tense up. I guess he can sense it because he tells me to just relax. One time, I was trying to shift around and he got a boner so I jumped up and I don't want to do it anymore. Why do I feel so awkward?

Sitting on someone's lap is an open, obvious sign of affection, so it might make someone feel embaressed, on top of it also being possibly uncomfortable or unstable
The boner bit, for guys sometimes it's just a reaction and not a constant thing, and pops up randomly more during being a teenager, I wouldn't let it bother you or read too much into it
Why don't you maybe try relaxing and move more towards him. After giving it a to, and still not liking it, be close to him in other ways like cuddling while sitting besides him or something

Lots of people do that and it's fine but you're obviously not ready yet so don't try to force it. If you're not comfortable sitting on his lap, then don't do it. Someday you'll like it and you'll start doing it on your own, or maybe you'll never do and that's also fine. Just tell him you'd rather sit next to him. Don't do anything you don't like doing.
