Girls are you willing to share your story about how you felt when you had your first period?

I remember when I had my first period at the age of 11 I thought my organs were coming out of my vagina. It was a terrifying experience when you're young and had no clue about your body changing in such a dramatic way. Girls are you willing to share your story about how you felt when oh had your first period?

  • I was late (14).

I was in church and I suddenly doubled over in pain and ran to the bathroom. It felt like I needed to vomit and have diarrhea at the same time. By the time I got to the bathroom I was dripping sweat. Naturally I did not think that I was having my period... obviously I had somehow contracted a rare disease and I was going to die that day. They would find me keeled over dead on the toilet. Obviously.

I couldn't decide if I needed to throw up in the toilet or sit on the toilet. The trashcans were the heavy industrial ones so you couldn't bring it in the stall with you.

I had told my mom I needed to go to the bathroom. I'd put it off for a bit because she has this thing about leaving the service and I didn't want her to be mad.

I guess I stayed in there for a while because it was toward the beginning of the service when I left and my mom came and found me afterwards.

It was SUPER embarrassing because my mom is one of those people who likes to share her life accomplishments and I'm not. But apparently MY first period is HER life accomplishment so she of course announced it to her friend (the mother of one of my MALE classmates) right in front of him. I walked out of the bathroom (Mother had a pad for me) and I was congratulated on my "womanhood" by my mother. And this woman. And this woman's husband. And my classmate. Only my father was as mortified as I was.

But he drove us to the store to get Midol and he let me buy chocolate and Starbucks so I mean, I guess...

Still. It's moments like that when you secretly wish your father were a single parent to you because he was like, "You need A, B, and C, and here you go. Now don't mention this ever." And that would have been good. Instead basically the whole church knew.

And my mom wanted it to be some mother-daughter bonding moment and she wanted to have the puberty talk right there in the car on the way home. And I just wanted to crawl in a hole and die.

    • Oh wow that was interesting. Thank you for sharing. Is it okay if I laugh?

    • Haha it's pretty funny now. Then it wasn't. But it did make it so I never speak to that other family and I don't share personal info with my mother now. :p

    • Lmao. It's a blessing in disguise that you know what not to share with your mom. I'm starting to learn that now when my mom was just so pleased to share to everyone about, pretty much everything about me.

  • I was 11, my mom was away on a business trip and I was at a hockey tournament with my dad and brother... I knew what was happening because we'd learned about it in health the year before, but I was totally embarrassed and couldn't say anything to my dad. I finally got up the courage to tell a friend, who told her mom who got me a pad.
Worst part of the whole thing was telling my mom when she got back. For some odd reason, I was incredibly nervous about it. You'd have thought I'd gotten caught shoplifting or something as nervous as I was, which is funny in retrospect, but wasn't at the time. Mom was very matter of fact about the whole thing- showed me where we kept the pads, asked me if I had any questions and told me to let her know if I needed anything...

  • My mother has always kept me very well-informed so I knew exactly what it was.
    I was just like

"Nooooo body why u do dis" (I still have the exact same reaction every time)

And I didn't want to tell my mother. But I had to, of course. And I did. And that was that.

    • Haha that gif. I made that reaction yesterday when my period came while I was at work. O. O

  • The first time I had my period I threw a bunch of glasses at the wall and lost my shit for about four days. ^_^ Then I was all better for about two months before getting into a fight. ^_^ Then I was all better for about three months and got into a vocal altercation with a teacher that got me suspended for talking back. ^_^ Then I grew up!

    • Thanks for making me laugh, bro. Haha.

  • The first time I had a period I got an A on my paper and my teacher put "FANTASTIC JOB!" I was proud lol
    :p

    • Yes, putting a period at the end of your sentence is a well deserved A. *thumbs up*

    • Why thank you! But when my stepsister got her period for the first time my stepdad told and called EVERYONE! I felt so bad for her. I was like "do you wanna get outta here?" And she was like "yes please!" So I took her to Burger King to escape the embarrassment

    • Food always helps. You're a good brother. :)

    • Yeah I had to start a new birth control because of my cramps

    • Oh gosh. I hope the best for you.

  • I started when I was 11. But I actually knew what it was and how to handle it.

  • I had my first period when I was 11, I didn't feel anything really. I just thought I pooped blood... I don't know why period didn't come to my mind at all.

    • If we weren't taught about it we make our own conclusions on what aunt flow is. Lol

  • It was a really long time ago I couldn't remember it vividly, but when it happened I already know it's period since my mom already told me lots about it.

  • I got my first period when I was on a cruise ship. I was 13. There wasn't a lot of blood first time, very minimal. I didn't think much of it, I knew everything about periods, I was just shocked that there was so little blood and it lasted only for like 2 days.

    • That's fortunate that you didn't leak a lot. :)
