It is not the worst sin. Sin is sin. The people who said that "you go to hell for being gay" are committing a sin by lying, am I'm a Christian. people Go to hell for rejecting Jesus. In the new testament it says that "anyone who BELIEVES in him will not perish but have eternal life." That doesn't mean you can continue doing that sin when you accept him, but he will help you change your mindset and help you turn away from that sin. In Matthew 5:21-28, Jesus equates committing adultery with having lust in your heart and committing murder with having hatred in your heart. However, this does not mean the sins are equal. What Jesus was trying to get across to the Pharisees is that sin is still sin even if you only want to do the act, without actually carrying it out. The religious leaders of Jesus’ day taught that it was okay to think about anything you wanted to, as long as you did not act on those desires.
It's not considered the worst sin by them I don't think.. but from the way some Christians have treated me, you'd think I'd committed murder. As far as I know, religions are supposed to be peaceful ideologies that promulgate free will, compassion, love and charity. Jesus befriended prostitutes and forgave those that shunned him and put him to death. I'm not a religious individual and I can't understand why my love for another woman could ever be viewed as 'sinful', but I believe in some Christian's view, it is against the natural order and therefore, a perversion of God's will.
I understand that, but what i'm trying to get at why some "christians" think lesbians and gays are the worst sinners ever. they say to them you are going to hell, but yet they don't say that to men that sleep with 100 women and cheat.

My cynical side would be inclined to say that it's because some Christians like to pick and choose which bits of the Bible they prefer to focus on... *hides from the siege* o. O
As a Christian I don't consider it the worst sin, sin I'd sin and one shouldn't be placed higher than another.. and I dont judge, you'll find that a lot of straight Christians will seem a lot more judgmental toward homosexual behaviour because its the one sin they can't commit. that's all I have to say on this. Being attracted to someone of the same sex isn't the sin, it's the behaviour like having sex with someone of the same sex and lusting is a sin regardless of sex/gender. Just thought I'd throw my two pence in.
The Bible does not refer to sex as the worst sin. Christians like to present it as such because if they're straight, its one sin they have no trouble resisting. But they backtrack when you point out that cheating, divorce, premarital sex, swearing, etc are all sins and god says all sins are equal.

Not true. Also, for the most part it's men sleeping with men. There is no verse in the Bible that prohibits women sleeping with women. Basically, the Bible prohibits replacing heterosexual relationships with homosexual ones. There are many verses in the New and Old Testament about that. According to the Bible it is not considered the "worst" sin. All sin causes death... there is no "worst" sin. There is however one "unforgiveable" sin and that is Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. The Bible is a little unclear as to what that is, but it appears to be living through life and never accepting Christ during their life time.

The reason that many religious people focus on homosexuality to the exclusion of other issues discussed in the bible (care for the poor to name an example) is that people know they are not homosexual. They are certain through and through. It is easy, and safe to condemn others as sinful for a 'sin' you will never commit yourself.
Christian doctrine on homosexuality is neither agreed upon or universal. Conservative and fundementalist religious communities certainly make their view widely known. But they are not the only sects that represent themselves as Christians.
Episcopal, Church of Christ, and some Lutheran denominations perform gay weddings and bless gay civil unions as the local law permits.

The number of Christians that consider homosexuality to be the "worst" sin are in the minority. The worst sin is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, it is the only unpardonable sin as well as the only sin that's considered worse than any other.
As for everyone else, we're all sinners in the eyes of God, no one is any better or worse and most Christians belief that to be the truth.

Actually killing a baby or child willingly is one of the worst sins you can commit. The killing of a baby in cold blood is unforgivable in his eyes there is a special circle of hell just for those people. And blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is the worst sin you can commit. Homosexuality is a serious sin yes but it is by far not the worst.
I am not a christian, but I don't think it is considered the worst sin. What is the biggest issue about it I think is that it goes against the law of nature as well as the hedonistic/lustful lifestyle which is way more prevalent among homo- and bisexuals.

Ok.. Point A: there's no right to live free of criticism. You, nor gays, have the right to use the force of government or threats to silence anyone who thinks the homosexual lifestyle is harmful and/or sinful. Point B: Homosexuality is a sin, and never in the Bible is "lives sinless" the requirement to condemn sin. Moses was imperfect, yet called the Pharaoh out, called down plagues, etc. All of Jesus's Apostles were sinful mortals, yet they preached Scripture, which includes homosexuality being a sin and wrong. (I'm guessing the Apostles weren't quoting the CDC on HIV rates and such life modern people...)
