Guys, is a bdsm relationship, does the dom having the sub wear a collar mean anything emotional?

does the dom having the sub wear a collar mean anything emotional or significant? or is it just for the purpose of possibly leading the sub by it or the dom thinks it looks hot? I've just noticed that in bdsm p*rn or pics a large number of them having the sub wearing a collar, curious if there's a meaning

  • It has nothing to do with emotions, there are different types of collars. A training collar is much like an engagement ring, then the actual collar would be a discreet type collar for everyday usage, these type are normally given at a collaring ceremony which is basically a wedding, but for the actual dynamic of it. There are the "play" collars of which a leash is attached to.. these are more for play, and restraints. There are also posture collars as well

  • When the sub is collared, that means she has surrendered herself whole to the master. The master owns her body and her mind though it is a mutual agreement.

    • ok so its not something that is taken lightly. the sub doesn't wear a collar right when they start experimenting with dom/sub sex? It is later on?

    • yes, later on when she officially belongs belongs to her master.

  • The collar, if the Dom is using the collar for symbolization, represents control over the Sub, and that the Dom enjoys the control or idea of being in control.

  • It's a signal for yourself, for him and for others, that you are his. He owns you.

  • I think it's hot, (the collar is to designate you are his pet) it's like being a private possession or toy for pleasure. Like pulling on the leash as a personal command to stop and being told to roll over like a pet and submit to being pleasured and existing to give the ultimate release of orgasm. The submissive is the one in control though because she has the safe word to stop and feels her lover shudder in pleasure.

  • It all depends on the people involved, for some a collar is just part of the dress up, part of the play, for others it is as binding as getting married, some people even have collaring ceremonies, depends on what the people want from the relationship

  • It means whatever the two people decide it means. In that sense a BDSM relationship is like any other. There aren't any special rules. The meaning of a collar is as deep as the relationship. For a committed couple a collar will have great meaning. For a new couple the collar is usually a promise of exclusivity.

  • There is, it means that the sub is "owned" or rather "collared" much like a wedding ring.

  • Thanks a lot 50 Shades of Grey

  • the collar is to let others know that you are someones possesion

    • but they don't wear them in public, i'm talking about the collars the sub wears during sex

    • Real subs do wear them in public quite often. The p*rn subs don't because they just sub for a day for a shoot or something.

  • It's pretty symbolic. Wearing the master's collar is a big sign of submission.

    • will a dom have any sexual partner of his/hers wear one? Or just one that he/she is in a committed relationship with? Someone compared it to a collar on your dog. You only put a collar on a dog that you own, so if the dog gets lost the dog can be found and returned to you. Also the owner can pick the style of collar that usually represents their fashion sense or the dogs personality.

    • is it considered disrespectful if the sub just buys his/her own collar and puts it on themselves right before sex? would a dom be mad about that? i'm just curious about this style of sex, its not my cup of tea to try, but its interesting to me :)

    • I think your dom might be mad if you put your own collar on without consulting him first. Of course if you gave him the collar as a gift... then he could give it to you to wear.

  • Yes and no. It all depends on the dom and sub. It is usually meant for Master/Pet relationships.
