Do you think it's inconsistent to be Christian and also do sexual things before marriage or look at porn?

  • Perhaps, but keep in mind that for all of recorded human history, the average marriage age for women was 15, and for men, 18... until technology started changing society in huge ways in the 1960s.

Most of Christianity's "rules" were made by men, not God, and they were based on society at the time, which was slow to change. That continued to be true until the 20th Century, a time of amazing, rapid changes. Modern society is a reflection of those changes.

Many of Christianity's rules simply aren't practical or feasible today. Ask your priest/preacher/elder/etc. if he recommends people today marry and start having children in their mid-late teens, and see what he says... (even though this was the norm through the 1950s).

  • I certainly don't see why not. I don't remember jesus ever saying "hey, don't have sex, y'all!" Unless you're thinking about where he said to abandon families and go follow him? But then, that would include sex-in-marriage, too :p and most christians aren't going to give away all their money and go start ministering to the poor anyway.

If you're behaving with love towards anyone you sleep with, not lying to anyone, make sure your partners get pleasure too (not being selfish in bed, etc), and don't watch unethical porn (kiddie porn, don't pay for porn unless you've checked the company makes an effort to take care of their models, etc), then I don't see any sort of conflict with Christ.

  • The rules put forth by religion are almost impossible to live up to.
It attempts to stop people from doing natural human things and having natural human desires.
ALL sexually mature people have natural sexual interest and desires.
The bible is a political doctrine which was created to control a bronzed aged society and should not be used by modern civilized people.

  • HELL YES it is completely contradictory as a Christian to do those things the bible is very clear about purity and sex before marriage God made a woman just for you to marry and don't you think that's hurtful to her if she has remained pure for her husband

    • IF you don't want to do the right thing and remain pure then why be a Christian at all just go lead a sinful sexually impure immoral life don't claim to be a believer and not practice what you preach

    • What is immoral about sex?

    • nothing if its within marriage but If you screw around with a bunch of girls and your not married to one of them its immoral

  • A lot of people who engage in sexual acts before marriage try to justify it and work their religion around their own personal beliefs.

I mean not everyone does this, but I know a lot who do.

  • Absolutely not! This whole V card thing is a little nuts IMHO. I'm a man of strong faith but I don't think that includes this virgin bride thing.

  • That's what cracks me up about Christianity. There are all these rules and standards that TECHNICALLY you're supposed to follow, but it's ok to fuck up routinely, because Jesus. You Christians have it MADE😆

    • Lol that's pretty true, it's the laziest religion

    • @Longblackveil Haha, yeah, I can't understanding why anyone looking to get down with a religion would go anywhere else. It's a cinch to be Christian. 90% don't even go to church or any of that, they just claim Christianity when asked and all is forgiven, haha. All the other religions seem like so much work.

    • *cant understand

  • I don't find it at all inconsistent.
The Bible, in its original text and original language, is not opposed to premarital sex. www.123helpme.com/...t-a-sin-against-god--view.asp

Latin and English versions of the Bible are deliberate MIS-translations.

  • Yes, it IS inconsistent. Christ gave His life for you to have freedom in Him, not live in sexual bondage to porn or fornication. Only sex within the bounds of marriage is holy. So, start searching for a good wife!

  • All Christians sin, and the bible recognizes that, so no I wouldn't say that it is

  • Don't think so. KNOW so.

  • yes but most do and try to justify it

  • I'd say that you'd be a worse Christian by taking every single thing you find in the Bible literally and at face value.

  • INCONSISTENT!

  • People got married in their teens back in Biblical times! That is one fact that is always ignored when it comes to sex and Christianity

  • It is inconsistant with being a Christian or a Christ follower however we all do things that we might regret later. If you are trying to live a Christian life then you need to get these things out of your life pornography and sex are very addicting behaviors and if you feel God leading you away from those things then you should talk to a pastor or a trusted mentor who won't judge you but will help you. If you can't find someone then message me and I will help you the best I can

  • Most people don't follow the Bible to a T anyway. So no I don't think it is.

  • I'm not a Christian, but from my little knowledge of the bible, I think that sex before marriage is prohibited.

  • Sex, yes. Masturbation, no. I believe that God gave us arms that reach our genitals BECAUSE premarital sex is a sin. Masturbation is meant to act as a safety valve. II tried going completely without masturbation, and within a month it got to the point where I couldn't even look at my female classmates. However, it is important to keep a happy medium. Your sexuality is like a keg of alcohol. Drink it too soon (premarital sex) and it won't taste good. Let the pressure build up (not masturbating) and the barrel will burst and spill everywhere. Let too much pressure out (masturbating frequently) and it won't ferment. But if you keep it at a happy medium, this will happen: www.girlsaskguys.com/.../q1331149-does-growing-up-in-a-strict-religious-background-make-you-sexually

    • Very interesting, thx!

  • I think it's stupid to be a Christian and suppress yourself from natural urges.

    • In Biblical times there were good reasons to not have sex before marriage. Like babies. Maybe it's time for a revised version?

    • King AngryHorny's Version?

    • @AngryHorny, maybe it's time to wake up to the fact that the bible has no real merit and people should abandon these treacherous Abrahamic cults.

  • Christianity itself is inconsistent...

  • We are all sinners. You don't have to be perfect to be a Christian, but I think all those things would be considered the sin of adultery. Jesus said that if you look lustfully at a woman you have committed adultery in your mind. He also said if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out.

    • you sound very devout, so why is your name AngryHorny? loool

    • I'm not at all devout, but my parents insisted I attend church as a child.

    • Ok. But like it's impossible for an unmarried person to commit adultery
