Here is how I look at it... We are human beings. As human beings, we have needs and one of those needs is sexual pleasure. I just read an article that said that if we watch porn or masturbate we are inviting a sex demon. They said that the sex demon makes us watch porn and masturbate even if we don't want to. They even said that thinking about sex is even equivalent to actually having sex. I think it's nonsense. What do they expect us to do? Just sit there and be horny as hell? That's crazy! I guess sexual thoughts and feelings are evil... It's not evil its normal. We're human.

Do I believe that masturbation is a sin or that lust is equivalent to having sex? No, not at all. I think that's silly and stupid. I think that the Bible demonizes and makes us feel guilty for our natural urges. In fact, I'd even go so far to say that the reason the Bible does that is to make people dependent on religion. It creates a cycle where people will sin, feel guilty about their sin, and then turn to god for forgiveness.

There are many things in the Bible that I disagree with. The choice was either a) follow things that I disagree with, b) rationalize/ignore the things I disagree with in the Bible, or c) give up a religion that I disagree with. I chose c.

There are a lot more atheists and agnostics on this site who will not support religious god-fearing when people ask questions like this, so as you can see from your replies, you should be feeling bad about it. Also, aside from this site, why not research the benefits of masturbation from clinical sites so that you don't have to worry.

I just reread my response and I see I should have said, "You should *not* be feeling bad about it." (Just to clarify. @sexyphil Of course it's outdated, AND rewritten to suit those in power over the centuries! No one can get their shit together with what's what in the bible as there are so many contradictions in it, and what's worse there are so many things that people just ignore because they'll argue, "Well, that's not to be taken literally." But no matter how it goes, one is supposed to follow all this nonsense for fear of god. It's pretty easy: remove god altogether and the fears will follow. From my understanding, the spilling your seed thing isn't about masturbation, or even wasting your sperm. Basically, in that culture, if a married man died without leaving any offspring, the next of kin was sometimes expected to have sex with his widow to produce children (so the widow would have children to look after her, etc.). But the children would be raised as the children of the man who died, not of the relative that fathered them. Onan was told to have sex with his brother's widow and have kids with her, as was custom, but he didn't want to give up his children to be raised as the children of his late brother, so he had sex with her, but pulled out. God was upset with him (and killed him) for not impregnating his brother's widow like he was supposed to, not because he wasted sperm.

Well, I mean, having kids so that they'll take care of you when you're too old to take care of yourself has been a common practice throughout history. In the past, there weren't old age homes or social security, so you relied on your family to provide for you when you became too old to work or otherwise provide for yourself. It was probably especially bad if you were a woman, since you'd be more limited in being able to provide for yourself. So, I think it makes sense in the context, but yeah, still kind of fucked up. Like, is that what the woman wanted? Did she have a say?

I see what points you are trying to make but again, we are supposed to like sex. Historical humans didn't survive long. Babies had over 50% mortality rate before the age of 5.
