I don't know if I would consider it rude because, after all, his penis was in your mouth and you were purposely pleasuring him. Part of you had to know that when a man has an orgasm, he ejaculates semen that has to go somewhere. He should definitely have told you he was going to cum at the very least to give you the option of where you wanted it to be/go. Or you could have done what my wife and I do: we discuss before she goes down on me where she wants me to cum (she doesn't always feel like letting me cum in her mouth) and I assure her I will let her know when I'm about to so she can make the call (she sometimes changes her mind) at the last second if she wants to. Bottom line: he should have asked, you should have told him, he should have said when he was about to cum, and you should have known it was coming (pun intended)--communication failure on both sides, but definitely inconsiderate on his.
