What's been your longest dry spell?

After my first sexual relationship I was celibate for seven years. I call it the 7 year itch. It was a combination of inexperience, strong morals and insecurity. Then during my final year internship I found myself spending a lot of alone time with one of my class mates. Off course the dryspell was broken. When she asked how long since I been laid I said a year which she found remarkable. I lied off course. After I made up plenty for the lack of sex having multiple partners. I did it with any attractive woman and anywhere. After a HIV scare I behaved myself and became more careful. I'm clean. I found myself focusing more on quality relationships than sex. Now I haven't been a relationship for 2 years. It's almost 2 years since I got laid. What is your longest dry spell? Can you beat me?

Sounds a bit like me. I don't know. Maybe 7 or 8 years now? The only reason I've been able to keep somewhat track is because my ex celebrates her anniversary on facebook every Christmas.

It's also pretty funny how I've not done it considering all that's happened during this period. I have a couple of super weird stories. I remember one time where I met this girl at a Halloween party. I was dressed as pedobear (a costume a friend bought but didn't like). So I end up making out with this girl. Get her number. A week goes by and she wants us to meet as I promised we would. So I end up taking the buss 80 miles to her parents house. I greet her parents at the door and remembers her mentioning something about they going away for the weekend. I eat dinner with her and her sister. We go to her room and she starts talking about she wanting me to stay over. It felt weird and I didn't like the fact that the wall to her sisters room was paper thin. So I end up chickening out and taking the night buss home so I could get last call at some pub with a friend. Good times!

My other encounters have been somewhat like that and also some way worse. So two big reasons for my dry spell are. 1. I'm really insecure about myself. 2. I haven't really been that attracted to the girls I had a good shot at and have been just way too scared to even try getting further with the ones that I am attracted to.

Once you stop doing it for a while it becomes so to be celibate. You almost forget about it unless you start dating someone extremely hot or are being pursued by attractive persons. It also helps to get plenty of hobbies to get your mind off it.

During my last celibacy run, I had a friend and we were both celibate but somewhere down the line she started teasing me: always talking about her perfect ass. It was like a monster got unleashed. Plowed through so many women when the flood gates open. My celibate friendship ended soon after I started having sex with other girls. To be fair to me my celibate friend had no real interest in me. She was just cock blocking me so I could be miserable together with her.

Ah ok. Funny you say that. She is the same way. Reclusive. I believe she was abused also. She recently reached out to me. She is still single, I dunno about her sex life now. It's unfortunate that you have that outlook on sex. It can be so beautiful when done with the right person. But Im glad that you are using this time to do productuve fun stuff. Not a good idea to be single and have no hobbies. I'm actually taking up new courses and relearning some of my old skills. I m happy I'm productive again and not letting my sex drive affect my life.

Oh don't get me wrong, I like sex. I'm just not in a relationship so I don't really have strong urges? I don't know, but I'm not feeling it lately. That can definitely change when I find the right guy, but for now, I'm good. That's great! I'm happy to hear that, and good luck with the new courses!

@samhradh_leannan indeed. It wasn't like during that time I was locked away in a monastery. I was dating and had girlfriends. You can have a strong platonic relationship if the individuals choose to be celibate. Although it kinda sucks if it ends and you were never physically intimate. You wonder if sex could have created a stronger bond - which it does in many relationships.

I had two dry spells, about 2.5 years the first time, and 2 years the second. I chalk some of this up to blind-ass bad luck, but it was mostly my own ineptitude with women and inability to keep my emotions in check, not only when interacting, but in reaction to my failures.
