How do you convince your girlfriend to get circumcised?

My family is refusing to allow me to marry my Lebanon-born Maronite girlfriend unless she is circumcised. It's a tradition, my family is originally Coptic immigrants from Egypt and would only accept marriage with a circumcised woman. I asked my girlfriend if she can get circumcised to cut off the clitoris, she said she would do it as long as it was a medical proffesional doing the procedure and not some traditional barber or midwife because she fears it might cause pain and infections. My family even refused that and said it is a specific family tradition to have the midwife do the cutting. How do I convince my girlfriend to have the midwife do the circumcision?

  • Personally, I am not a fan of Female Genital Mutilation. The idea of someone cutting my clitoris off is fucking terrifying and is would 100% be a deal breaker for me. Also, what's the logic behind it? It takes away a woman's main source of sexual pleasure. I mean, most women can't orgasm at all without clitoral stimulation and that's sad.     There are no real pros to having this procedure. I've heard people say that it ensures a woman's chastity and keeps her pure until marriage, BUT THATS ONLY BECAUSE YOU WOULD TAKE AWAY HER ABILITY TO ENJOY SEX. Why not love her the way God made her and let her live the rest of her life with her body parts in tact?

  • Ummm... I think you are asking for an illegal thing here. Are you so dependant on your family that you can't live without their approval even if they are asking for a dangerous illegal procedure which is going to hurt and mangle the person you supposedly love? !

  • You are asking the wrong question. Instead of asking how you can convince your girlfriend to get circumcised (she should NOT), you should be asking how you can convince your family that their "traditions" are sick, wrong, dangerous and illegal.

    • You can't really say traditions are 'wrong' because tradition is a tradition, correct or incorrect can't be judged because there's no certain criteria. However it is dangerous

    • @QooLipBite Yes to cut peoples body parts off is wrong. Just like it's wrong to kill someone or abuse someone. Cannibal serial killers could claim it's their family tradition to kill and eat their victims, but that doesn't make it ok, it's still wrong. Wrong is wrong, tradition or not.

    • @QooLipBite You can factually define the severity of the (PERMANENT) damage caused by certain "traditions" while keeping track of the actual established gain/benefit. There is no benefit here, only permanent damage. This tradition is insane.

  • Most here are not going to accept female circumcision. The same procedure is done in the west, it just falls under plastic surgery and in a safer medical setting. I suggest you going against your own family on this one, she's right. When midwifes or local "experts" perform circumcisions things can go horribly wrong. They are relying on ancient surgical techniques and a lack of modern medical information, plus unsanitary tools like stones, or sharp fingernails. If she wants to undergo the procedure in an advanced medical setting, that would be her best bet if she chooses to do so. If your family still doesn't accept that decision, your going to have to either marry her anyway without their blessing, or not marry her.

Circumcision is done so she ca't get any pleasure out of sex. He specifically mentioned cutting of the clitoris and no plastic surgeon does that. Labiaplasty is something very very very very very different. Or what procedure exactly do you mean?

    • @nalaa I meant labiaplasty. It's not exactly the same, I just mean it's a similar procedure done for cosmetic reasons. It's much safer than female circumcisions types III or IV in particular. Every region does the circumcision differently though.

    • @nalaa Also they do perform clitoridechtomies on intersex infants or for those with cancer. It's not a very common surgery, but there are certain medical instances for it.
